Rules Tip of the Day: Always make an effort to bring your DCI number to a tournament. While it is often possible to look up a player's number on site, it allows staff to enter player quicker and get the event started earlier if most people are prepared and bring their numbers. If you have not played in a sanctioned DCI tournament before, you can get a DCI number when registering at your first event.

Q: I have Nettling Curse on my opponent's creature; I use the ability during his upkeep. When he declares his attack step, he casts Master Warcraft. He is at three life, so he obviously doesn't want to attack. Does the Master Warcraft allow him to override the Nettling Curse?

A: No. Master Warcraft allows this player to make choices for all players regarding attacking and blocking this turn. But he cannot choose to ignore a restriction or requirement with regards to attacking or blocking. In other words, this enchanted creature does still have to attack and he will still lose three life.

Q: I play Cytoshape targeting Keiga, the Tide Star, choosing my Vigean Hydropon. What happens when Cytoshape resolves?

A: Assuming that Keiga does not have any counters on it, it will go to the graveyard, as it is now a 0/0 creatures. Also, when this Keiga card leaves play it will do so as a copy of Vigean Hydropon, so it will not have a leaves-play triggered ability to trigger.

Q: Can I use Rakdos Augermage's ability, even when I don't have any cards in hand?

A: Yes, there is no requirement that you have a card in your hand in order to play the ability. And as this ability resolves, your opponent will still discard a card even if you do not have one in hand.

Q: I control Simic Guildmage, while my opponent controls a Viashino Fangtail that I have enchanted with Mark of Eviction. During his turn, he plays Soulsworn Jury. On my turn, can I move the Mark to the Jury before the triggered ability resolves to return it to his hand?

A: Yes, that works. Mark of Eviction's ability will return the currently enchanted creature to its owner's hand when it resolves.

Q: If I attack with Emperor Crocodile, and my friend blocks with Meddling Mage and plays Brace for Impact, does the Mage get five +1/+1 counters, or just two, because it has only two toughness?

A: The Meddling Mage will have five points of damage assigned to it. It does not matter that it only has a toughness of two. Because of this it will get five +1/+1 counters.

Q: Is there any way to stack Swift Silence so that it can counter Storm copies?

A: Yes. When a Storm spell is played, a triggered ability will go on the stack. When this triggered ability resolves, the appropriate number of copies of the Storm spell will go on the stack. You can play Swift Silence at this point and counter all of the Storm copies and the original. Replicate works the same way, and you can use Swift Silence to counter all of those copies as well.

Q: If I have Eye of the Storm in play, and play Capsize and pay its Buyback cost, does it resolve and return to my hand, or is the Capsize removed and placed on the Eye of the Storm?

A: It will be removed from the game by Eye of the Storm. The Buyback effect only returns the played spell to your hand when it resolves. In this instance Eye of the Storm's ability will remove Capsize from the game, so it will not resolve.

Q: I have five green creatures on the board. Can I Convoke them, play Wrath of God, and then play Scatter the Seeds from the Convoke?

A: No, you tap creatures to lower the cost of a Convoke spell when you play the Convoke spell. You cannot tap them in advance and "Convoke into a pool" to play spells later in a turn.

Q: I was wondering how Bosium Strip interacts with Buyback, since both have a replacement effect for the card going to the graveyard. Would I get the spell back in my hand, or is it removed from the game? My guess is that the Buyback effect has priority over the Bosium Strip effect, as Buyback states that the 'put back in hand' is part of the spell's resolution. The Bosium strip happens after the spell's resolution.

A: Both Bosium Strip and the Buyback ability create replacement effects that try to change what happens when a spell would go to the graveyard. As the controller of the spell, you can choose which replacement effect to apply to it first. If you apply the Buyback replacement effect, then it will not go to your graveyard, and the effect generated by Bosium Strip won't be applied at all. However, if you want, you can apply the effect from the Bosium Strip first and have this card removed from the game, but I suspect that is not what you want.
