Rules Tip of the Day: All instances of the words 'you' and 'your' in an ability refer to the controller of the ability. The controller of an ability is the player that controlled the ability when the ability was played and went on the stack; these words refer to that player, even if the source of the ability changes controllers before the ability resolves.
Q: If I attach Followed Footsteps to any creature with Graft, will the tokens it makes come in with the Graft counters and the ability of the creature, or will they come in as a 0/0 and die immediately?
A: Copies of a creature will come into play as exact copies. This means that they will come into play with the appropriate number of +1/+1 counters, and they will have the Graft ability.
Q: If Rakdos Ickspitter's target is made illegal before the ability resolves, is the life loss portion of the ability fizzled as well?
A: If the target of the ability is illegal when the ability goes to resolve, the entire ability is countered on resolution and no part of it will resolve.
Q: Can I play a Forecast ability—like the ability of Pride of the Clouds—anytime in my upkeep? My opponent plays Diabolic Edict during my upkeep; can I use my Pride's ability, so that I can sacrifice the token it produced, instead of another creature?
A: Yes. You can use Forecast abilities anytime during your upkeep step.
Q: If I have Grand Arbiter Augustin IV in play, and I want to play the Supply side of Supply / Demand, does the Augustin reduce the cost by 1 or 2? I'm voting for 2, because the spell is blue until it's on the stack, and by the time it's on the stack, the costs will have already been reduced and paid.
A: The cost of this Supply will only be reduced by 1. The card Supply / Demand may be white and blue, but the spell Supply is green and white. When you play a spell, the first thing you do is put it on the stack. If you choose to play Supply, then the characteristics of Demand will not matter at all.
Q: Can Voidslime counter Debtors' Knell, keeping it from bringing a creature into play?
A: Yes. Debtors' Knell's ability is an example of a triggered ability. Keep in mind that this will only prevent a creature from coming into play this turn; the ability will trigger as normal at the beginning of its controller's next turn.
Q: If Siege of Towers makes a Mountain into a 3/1 creature, is it a red creature?
A: No. Siege of Towers does not give this animated land a color, so it will remain colorless.
Q: Is Simic Sky Swallower affected by Meekstone?
A: Yes. Meekstone's ability does not target, so it will prevent a Simic Sky Swallower from untapping in its controller's untap step.
Q: If I have Wild Mongrel, enchanted by Blessing of the Nephilim, can I choose to make the Wild Mongrel more than one color when I use his ability?
A: No. When Wild Mongrel's ability resolves, you can choose to make the Mongrel just one of the five colors of Magic.
Q: I have Kira, Great Glass Spinner in play, and my opponent casts Enduring Ideal. My opponent searches for Faith's Fetters, and attempts to enchant Kira. Can he enchant Kira, or will it be countered by Kira's ability?
A: Yes, your opponent can do that. Putting an Aura into play without playing it does not target the object you wish to enchant. Your opponent can put this Faith's Fetter's into play, and Kira's ability will not trigger.
Q: Can you play all the lands revealed with Mind's Desire?
A: No, the rules regarding playing of lands still applies. If you have not yet played a land that turn, you can play one of the revealed lands.
Q: I have Ivory Mask in play and my opponent wants to use a Counterspell to counter a spell I played. Can that spell be countered, even though they can't target me?
A: Yes, he is targeting a spell, not you. It does not matter that you control the spell, his Counterspell does not target you at all.
