Rules Tip of the Day: If, when combat damage is assigned, all of the creatures that were blocking an attacking creature with trample are no longer in play, then all of the damage from the attacking creature with trample will be assigned to the defending player.
Q: My husband has an Experiment Kraj in play, along with an Assault Zeppelid with a +1/+1 counter on it. He then plays an Ocular Halo on the Zeppelid. He says that the Kraj can now tap to draw a card and he can tap white mana to give the Kraj vigilance until end of turn. We both agree he can tap the Kraj to draw a card. However, I think he can't use the vigilance ability by the Kraj, because the "(W): Enchanted creature gains vigilance until end of turn" activated ability is an ability of the enchantment only, not of the creature, since there is nothing that says "Enchanted creature gets [or has] ...." Who is right?
A: You are, for the reasons you stated. As you pointed out, he can tap Experiment Kraj to draw a card, as Ocular Halo gives that ability to the enchanted creature. This ability is then carried over to the Kraj, due to the fact that the enchanted creature also has a +1/+1 counter on it. However, your husband can not pay white mana to give the Kraj vigilance. This is because that ability is an ability of the Ocular Halo and is not given to the enchanted creature.
Q: Can a Shining Shoal redirect damage dealt by a Demonfire when the Demonfire's controller has no cards in hand?
A: Yes, that works, because Shining Shoal does not prevent damage, it redirects it. The damage from this Hellbent Demonfire cannot be prevented, but it can be redirected.
Q: If I have two Stalking Vengeance cards in play, and a creature enters the graveyard, will the damage dealt to my opponent be doubled?
A: Yes. When a creature you control goes to a graveyard, the abilities of each Stalking Vengeance will trigger. When each of these abilities resolves, you will deal damage equal to the power of the creature that went to the graveyard. So in effect, you will deal damage equal to twice the power of this creature's power to the targeted player.
Q: I have Night of Souls' Betrayal in play, along with Endless Whispers. When I play Bronze Bombshell, will it do seven damage to the opponent in a repeating loop?
A: No. Bronze Bombshell's triggered ability will only deal seven damage to your opponent if that opponent actually sacrifices it. When Bronze Bombshell is put in the graveyard by state-based effects for having zero toughness, the trigger will do nothing.
Q: I play Warp World and put into play a Coiling Oracle and a Sensei's Divining Top. May I use the Top and use it to look ahead, and then resolve the Oracle's ability?
A: Yes, when Warp World resolves, the ability of the Oracle will trigger, and it will go on the stack after Warp World has finished resolving. You can respond to this triggered ability by activating the ability of your Sensei's Diving Top and arranging the top three cards of your library.
Q: In my hand, I have Footsteps of the Goryo and Goryo's Vengeance. In my graveyard I have Yosei, the Morning Star and Protean Hulk. I cast Footsteps, targeting the Protean Hulk, and splice Vengeance to the Footsteps, targeting Yosei. Is it possible at the end of my turn to stack the end-of-turn effects in my favor, so that the Protean Hulk goes to the grave before Yosei is removed from game, to find a second Yosei from my library, so both Yosei go the graveyard causing my opponent to miss two untap steps?
A: Yes that does work. When the next end of turn step begins, both of the delayed triggered abilities generated by the Footsteps of Goryo and the Goryo's Vengeance will go on the stack. As the controller of these two triggered abilities, you can determine the order that they go on the stack and, therefore, the order that they resolve in. To do what you want, put the delayed triggered ability of the Goryo's Vengeance on the stack first, followed by the ability of the Footsteps of Goryo. When the Footsteps' ability resolves, the Protean Hulk will go to the graveyard, the Hulk's ability will trigger, and this ability will go on the stack on top of the Goryo's Vengeance triggered ability. When the Hulk's leaves-play triggered ability resolves, you can search your deck for another Yosei to put into play. Then, after this triggered ability resolves, state-based effects will be checked, and both Yosei will go to the graveyard. Eventually, when the Goryo's Vengeance triggered ability resolves, the Yosei it brought back into play will no longer be in play, so the ability will do nothing.
