Rules Tip of the Day: Giving a creature first strike after first strike damage has already gone on the stack will not prevent it from dealing combat damage.
Q: I was wondering if the first ability on Dark Depths can be Stifled or Voidslimed, causing the land's controller to sac it for the 20/20 token immediately.
A: No, that is a static ability that is applied as Dark Depths comes into play. It cannot be countered by any spell or ability.
Q: If a permanent with Cumulative Upkeep is on the board, can I remove an age counter with Power Conduit to avoid paying the cost during my upkeep?
A: Not entirely. You can keep the cost low, but you won't be able to completely negate the Cumulative Upkeep cost. When a Cumulative Upkeep triggered ability resolves you put an age counter on that permanent, and then pay the appropriate cost for each age counter on this permanent. You don't gain priority between adding a counter and paying the upkeep cost to do anything that would remove age counter, so you will have to pay the Cumulative Upkeep cost at least once. After the Cumulative Upkeep ability has completely resolved, you can remove the age counter to reduce the total cost next time, but you won't be able to avoid paying anything.
Q: If a creature is already tapped, can Evolution Vat still put a +1/+1 counter on it, or does the creature need to start out untapped for the Vat to be able to affect it?
A: The word "tap" in Evolution Vat's text is an instruction to tap the targeted creature when the ability resolves. It is not a targeting restriction. If it were, the ability would read "Tap target untapped creature..." So you can target an already tapped creature with Evolution Vat's ability. When the ability resolves, you will ignore the order to tap this creature, as it is already tapped, but you will carry out the rest of the effect.
Q: I know you can only tap Pillar of the Paruns for any color when playing a multicolored spell, but can you tap Pillar of the Paruns for a colorless mana for any other card?
A: No. The Pillar only has the one mana ability, which can only generate mana for multicolored spells.
Q: I have Perilous Forays in play, and my opponent casts Natural Affinity to make all lands 2/2 creatures. Then he casts Hour of Reckoning to destroy all non-token creatures. Can I use Perilous Forays' ability in response, sacrificing my animated lands as they go to graveyard from Hour of Reckoning, and search my library for land cards to put into play? Will this allow me to keep some land out in play after the Hour of Reckoning goes through?
A: Yes, that does work. First of all, to clarify: you cannot sacrifice these animated lands as they go to the graveyard; you can only do so before Hour of Reckoning resolves, and they are destroyed. If you do, then the lands you search for will be put into play before Hour of Reckoning resolves. Because these new lands were not in play when Natural Affinity resolved, they will not be animated. This means that when Hour of Reckoning resolves they will not be destroyed.
Q: I have Leyline of the Void in play, and I play Akroma's Vengeance. Since the Leyline is going to the graveyard simultaneously with my opponent's permanents, does the replacement effect still apply? Where do my opponent's permanents go?
A: All of your opponent's permanent will be removed from the game. The Leyline of the Void may go to the graveyard at the same time as the rest of the permanent destroyed by Akroma's Vengeance, but its replacement effect is applied as everything is destroyed.
Q: My friend has an Isochron Scepter with Orim's Chant imprinted on it. During my upkeep, he activates it. Can I play Abeyance in response, so that he cannot play the copy of the Chant?
A: Yes. You can respond to the activation of the Scepter by playing and resolving Abeyance. If you do, when the Scepter's ability resolves, your opponent will not be able to play the copy of Orim's Chant that has been created by the Scepter's ability.
Q: If I have a Fastbond in play, and Kodama's Reach puts a land into play tapped, does the Fastbond effect trigger?
A: No. You are not playing a land; you are putting a land into play. Because of this, Fastbond's ability will not trigger, and you will not take a point of damage.
