Rules Tip of the Day: Local enchantments enchanting a creature, and equipment attached to a creature, do not generally become tapped when the creature becomes tapped.
Q: What happens if I search my library with Rampant Growth and try to play Panglacial Wurm with mana from a Chromatic Sphere? It says to "draw a card" when the mana ability resolves, but how can I draw a card if I'm searching through my library?
A: Your library still has a top to it, so you can still draw that top card. It does not matter if this stack of cards is facing some direction other than up. Keep in mind that any time you search through your deck, you are not supposed to manipulate the order of the deck in any way, so the top card will remain the same, unless it happens to be the Wurm you just played. If some effect has arranged the top of your library prior to this, you will draw that known card. Technically speaking, the fact that you are searching through your library does not prevent you from drawing a card from it.
Q: Jester's Scepter has a comes-into-play effect that removes the top five cards of a target player's library from the game. If I were to bounce the Scepter back to my hand and recast it, would I be able to see the initial five removed cards?
A: Yes, the effect that removes these cards from the game allows youthe controller of the effectto look at these face-down cards. This is not contingent on Jester's Scepter remaining in play.
Q: I have Grim Harvest in my graveyard, and I sacrifice a 1/1 colorless Spirit token to Thoughtpicker Witch. Will the token trigger the Recovery ability of the Grim Harvest?
A: Yes. The Recover ability will trigger when a token creature goes to your graveyard.
Q: I have a Guardian of the Guildpact and an Enemy of the Guildpact in play, and I play Concerted Effort. Will the fact that Concerted Effort is white shield the Guardian from its effects? Furthermore, will the Enemy gain protection from monocolored?
A: Concerted Effort's ability does not target anything; it will grant abilities to creatures that have protection abilities. In this example, all of your creatures will have protection from multicolor and protection from monocolor. In other words, your creatures will have protection from any source that has any color at all. They will not have protection from colorless sources.
Q: With regards to Blessing of Leeches: who loses one life, the person who cast the enchantment, or the creature's controller?
A: The controller of the Blessing of Leeches will lose life. Unless some effect has changed the controller of this enchantment, the person who played this spell will lose the life.
Q: If I enchant a kicked Benalish Emissary with a Followed Footsteps, what happens with the tokens? Do they come into play with Kicker paid for, or can I pay for the Kicker when the token comes into play? Do I not get to play the Kicker at all?
A: These Benalish Emissary copies are put into play without being played, so the Kicker cost could not have been paid. So no, their coming into play ability will not trigger.
Q: It's my opponent's turn and I have an Academy Rector, a Starlit Sanctum, and Serenity in play. I have an untapped Plains. At the end of my opponent's turn, I use the Sanctum to sac the Rector, putting a Test of Endurance into play. I have one million life. At the beginning of my upkeep, do I win the game, or does the Serenity kill off the Test of Endurance before I can win the game?
A: You will win the game. First of all, as the controller of the abilities of Serenity and Test of Endurance, you can determine the order that these triggered abilities go on the stack. So you can have Test of Endurance's ability resolve before Test of Endurance is destroyed. If you do not, once triggered, Test of Endurance's ability will still resolve, even the Test is not in play.
Q: In a tournament, if I use a Memory Jar, can I put a counter on top of one of the face-down cards, so I can find it more easily with Death Wish?
A: No. These cards are face down and you cannot mark them or arrange them in any way to tell what they are. In fact, just prior to Death Wish resolving, these face-down cards should be shuffled.
