Chris Richter

Rules Tip of the Day: When multiple cards go to a player's graveyard or library (top or bottom) at the same time, the owner of these cards chooses the order that they go in.

Q: If there are two Harmonic Slivers in play, when another Sliver comes into play, does the ability trigger twice (in the same way that two Essence Slivers' effects will apply twice when a Sliver deals combat damage), or is it redundant?

A: Each Sliver will enter play with two copies of this ability. Both of these abilities will trigger independently and resolve separately. However, you can choose to target the same artifact or enchantment with both abilities.

Q: I have two Cavalry Masters and a Gray Ogre in play. I enchant my Ogre with Agility so it now has three instances of Flanking. I Disenchant the Agility. How many instances of Flanking does the Ogre have now?

A: None. When Agility leaves play, the Ogre will lose its initial source of the Flanking ability. Once this happens, the effect from the Cavalry Masters will not grant the Ogre additional copies of Flanking.

Q: If I turn a Vesuvan Shapeshifter face up and copy a Brine Elemental, would my opponents skip their next untap step?

Yes. When the Vesuvan Shapesfhiter is turned face up, it is a copy of the chosen card at that time. If the chosen card has a morph triggered ability, then that ability will trigger.

Q: How does Epic interact with Suspend? Can a spell not be Suspended after an Epic spell has been played, since the player no longer has permission to play that spell due to the Epic effect?

A: You are correct. You can only choose to suspend a spell if you are capable of playing that spell. If you have resolved an Epic spell and cannot play any additional spells then you will not be able to suspend anything.

Q: I have a Sangrophage and a Dark Confidant in play. During my upkeep, can I put the Sangrophage's ability on the stack, then put the Confidant's ability on top of that, so that I can see how much life I lose from the Confidant before deciding whether or not to pay the two life for the Phage?

A: Yes, that works. As the controller of these two triggered abilities, you can determine the order that they go on the stack, and, therefore, the order that they resolve in. To get the result you want, you'll need to put the Sangrophage's triggered ability on the stack first, so it will resolve last.

Q: Can I put Twiddle on an Isochron Scepter and use it to untap Time Vault, and then use Jhoira's Timebug to put a counter on it to gain infinite turns?

A: No. Time Vault received errata in July, so its ability does not use any counters anymore. This was in an effort to return it and other cards to their original, intended way of working. So because of this change, this combo does not work.

Q: If I change the text on Shisato, Whispering Hunter with Artificial Evolution, changing the word "Snake" to "Rat," what will then happen if I don't control any rats?

A: Nothing will happen when this upkeep triggered ability resolves. Shisato, Whispering Hunter will remain in play. There are no negative side effects if you do not sacrifice the appropriate creature.

Q: I have a Windreaver in play equiped with Loxodon Warhammer. If I switch the power and toughness, will Windreaver be a 6/1 or a 3/4?

A: It will be a 3/4. Effect that switch the power and toughness of a creature are always applied last. So, in this example, you start with a 1/3 creature, make it 4/3, and then end up with a 3/4.
