Rules Tip of the Day: You can only sacrifice creatures you control.
Q: What would happen if my opponent used the activated ability of Pooling Venom, and then, after the ability was on the stack, moved the enchantment to another land?
A: Pooling Venom's ability destroys the land that is enchanted when the ability resolves. So if this ability is activated, and the Aura is moved from land A to land B, then Land B will be destroyed when the ability resolves.
Q: I have Hissing Miasma in play and three creatures. My opponent attacks with Nacatl War-Pride. Does my opponent lose one life for the attacking War-Pride, or four life? Basically, which resolves first: the Hissing Miasma or War-Pride?
A: The order that these abilities resolve does not determine the amount of life your opponent will lose; what matters is what it means to attack. When your opponent attacks with Nacatl War-Pride, both its ability and the ability of Hissing Miasma will trigger. As you are the non-active player, your ability will go on the stack last and resolve first. When it does resolve, your opponent will lose one life. Then the Nacatl War-Pride's ability will resolve and put three attacking token copies of the War-Pride into play. These tokens copies enter play attacking, so they do not attack or become attacking creatures. Because they don't, the ability of hissing Miasma will not trigger for these tokens.
Q: I have a Privileged Position in play. Another player in this multiplayer game has a Magus of the Abyss in play. Will I have to sac a creature during my upkeep or does the Position make my permanents untargetable to the Magus' ability?
A: First of all Magus of the Abyss' ability does not cause you to sacrifice anything, it targets a creature, and this creature is destroyed. However, as you control Privileged Position, permanents you control cannot be targeted by spells and abilities controlled by your opponents. So at the beginning of your upkeep step, Magus of the Abyss' ability will trigger, but a legal target cannot be chosen. It does not matter that you are choosing the target, this ability is still controlled by an opponent. As a legal choice cannot be made, the ability will leave the stack and do nothing.
Q: I have Grave Peril in play, and an opponent plays a creature with protection from blackÂsay Akroma, Angel of Wrath. Will it be destroyed or not?
A: Yes this creature will be destroyed. Grave Peril's ability does not target or deal damage, so it will destroy a creature with protection from black that comes into play.
Q: If I have a Goblin War Drums out and attack with a Nacatl War-Pride, does that make him unblockable? Or does the "if able" clause in the War-Pride allow him to be blocked by two creatures because of the War Drums?
A: No, these creatures can be blocked by two or more creature. When assigning attackers or blockers, you must obey all restrictions (usually including the words "can't block" or "can't be blocked", etc) while fulfilling as many requirements as possible. Nacatl War-Pride's ability creates a requirement, and Goblin War Drums creates a restriction. Since this particular restriction prevents this requirement from ever being met, you can ignore it, but you may not ignore Goblin War Drums' restriction.
Q: I use a Soul Sculptor to make a creature into an enchantment and destroy it later with Soltari Visionary. Then I use the ability of Adarkar Valkyrie. Can I target the enchantment/creature with my Valkyrie and bring it back as a normal creature under my control?
A: You can get the result you want, but it won't work as you have described it. Adarkar Valkyrie's ability can only target a creature in play. In order to get the result you want, you need to target this permanent with Adarkar Valkyrie's ability while it i still a creature. After Soul Sculpter's ability resolves, the targeted creature is an enchantment only and not a creature. If you later turn this creature into an enchantment and then destroy it, it will still be returned to play by the Valkyrie's ability. This is because when text refers to a permanent type, it really means "that permanent." The effect will still be applied if this permanent changes types.
Q: My buddy has a bunch of untapped creatures out including a Temoral Adept. I play a Timbermare attempting to tap all his creatures and swing for the win. He responds by using the Temporal Adept's ability and sends my Timbermare back to my hand. I'm thinking that if the Timbermare is in play for him to send it to my hand, the Mare has already done her job and tapped the Adept. Does my opponent have a chance to use the Temporal Adept to return the Timbermare to my hand?
A: Yes. Timbermare has a comes-into-play ability that taps all other creatures in play. This ability uses the stack and can be responded to. After Timbermare comes into play and this ability goes on the stack, your opponent can use the ability of his Temporal Adept to return the Timbermare to your hand.
Q: Say I have a Fecundity and a creature with Dredge in play. If the creature with Dredge goes to my graveyard, can I use Fecundity to Dredge back that creature?
A: Yes, that does work. When Fecundity's ability resolves, this creature is in your graveyard, so you can choose to replace the draw by Dredging the creature that triggered Fecundity's ability.
