The Magic Show #74 – Worlds 2007, Part 1
Hello everybody and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. This week I fight through hardware failures and flight cancellations to bring you the first half of my Worlds 2007 experience. I talk to Patrick Chapin, Mark Rosewater, Tiago Chan, Zac Hill, Paul Cheon and more while I chronicle my Friday and Saturday experiences at the biggest Magic tournament of the year, and it’s all thanks to your support.
A little background on this experience:
I was scheduled to arrive in New York on Friday afternoon. Valencia and the Invitational slaughtered my vacation time at work, so I was going to try and make the most of it. While cutting it close, I would’ve been there for essentially the entire Legacy portion. However, due to a flight cancellation and subsequent delay, I didn’t make it to the site until after 8:30pm, when the last Legacy round was finishing up. Little did I know that most of the Hall of Famers and Big Name Pros would disappear without a trace soon after.
I also had difficulties finding a place to stay. My buddy Reuben Bressler tried his best, but after scrambling Friday my newfound friend Rich Stein graciously hosted me for the next few nights. Thanks Rich!
Another truth: It turns out that the Invitational is just ripe for the Kenji goodness you crave. Worlds? Notsomuch. With my lodging in question and countries sticking together, it was nigh impossible to follow around an inebriated foreigner, as much as I would’ve liked to (and trust me, I would’ve. Kenji is just pure entertainment).
Finally, after returning home and putting 4 hours in the editing room, a computer glitch and an external hard drive failure caused all of that work to be lost. Were there tears? Maybe. What you see today is the result of a marathon 11-hour editing/compiling session. I finished the video sometime around 5am.
Feedback, as always, is appreciated.
Next week we’ll get to juicy stuff like Lorwyn draft, favorite first picks, thoughts on the new Dragonstorm deck raging through Standard, and an interview with its creator, Chris Sutton, along with his latest list and sideboard technology.
Until then, this is Evan Erwin, busting ass on these Worlds vids so you don’t have to.
