Rules Tip of the Day: When resolving a spell or ability, you must follow the instructions in the order written.

Q: If I tap three creatures and Springleaf Drum, do I add three mana of any color to my mana pool? If so, can they be different colors?

A: That does not work. When you pay the cost of an ability, you can only pay the cost specified. In this case, when you play Springleaf Drum's ability, you tap the Drum and tap just one creature. Doing so will add one mana of any color to your pool. To get additional mana, you'd have to find a way to untap the Drum and then reactivate the ability again.

Q: I use Liliana Vess's last ability and I have three Timbermares in play. Do the Timbermares all get tapped, or would each Timbermare be untapped while everything else is tapped?

A: All creatures, including these threee Timbermares, will end up being tapped. These three Timbermares will come into play at the same time and each of their abilities will trigger. When each of these abilities resolves, all creatures other than the Timbermare that is the source of ability will become tapped. So each of these Timbermares will become tapped by the comes-into-play ability of the other Timbermares.

Q: Does Intet, the Dreamer's ability allow you to play the removed cards anytime you want?. Can you play spells removed from the game by Intet any time you could play an instant, or only at the speed of the removed card?

A: First of all there is no "speed" in Magic, but rather a system of priority that specifies when you can play things. Most players use the word 'speed' to describe this, but this misnomer can lead to confusion. Anyway, you can only play the removed card when you could normally play the card. Intet's ability does not change timing restrictions, just what you pay and what zone you can play certain cards from.

Q: Is ithe graveyard ability of Thunderblade Charge usable any time during the turn that one of the controller's creatures deals combat damage?

A: No. When any number of creature you control deal combat damage to a player, Thunderblade Charge's ability will trigger. When this trigger resolves, you can pay 2RRR. If you do, then you can immediately play the Thunderblade Charge. This is the only time you can play it via its ability.

Q: If someone uses Twiddle or Infuse to untap a creature, but that creature is enchanted with Paralyze do they still need to pay the four mana cost?

A: No. You only have to pay four mana if you untap the enchanted creature in the untap step, when Paralyze's ability resolves. If it untaps at any other time due to some other effect, you do not have to pay anything.

Q: I have a Ruby Medallion in play along with Djinn Illuminatus. I play Fire Ambush; because of the Medallion, I only pay R. If I have six red mana left, can I Replicate it six times, or do I have to pay the whole 1R, for the original mana cost of the card?

A: Ruby Medallion lowers the total cost to play this spell by one colorless mana. It does not lower the mana cost or the associated Replicate cost. If you play Fire Ambush and want to replicate six times, you'd normally pay 7RRRRRRR. One Ruby Medallion will only lower this total cost to 6RRRRRRR.

Q: I Flash Summoner's Egg into play. Does the Imprint complete before I sacrifice the Egg, allowing me to get the creature I Imprint?

A: You will not actually Imprint a card before you end up sacrificing Summoner's Egg, but if you stack the two triggers correctly, you can end up with a creature in play. If you play Flash, put Summoner's Egg into play when it resolves and you do not pay the difference (in this case two more mana), then you will sacrifice the Egg at this point during the resolution of Flash. Then, after Flash resolves, you will have two triggered abilities to put on the stack: the Egg's comes-into-play Imprint ability and the Egg's leaves-play ability. It does not matter that the comes-into-play ability triggered first; you can choose to put it on the stack last. If you do, then the Imprint ability will resolve first and allow you to remove a card in your hand face-down. Then the Egg's leaves-play ability will resolve. When it does, you will reveal the removed card and put it into play if it is a creature card.

Q: If I tap my Rainbow Vale for mana, triggering its ability, and then use the mana to cast Blood Moon, what will happen?

A: The chosen opponent will still gain control of Rainbow Vale at the end of the current turn. When you use Rainbow Vale's mana ability you tap it, choose a color or mana to generate, and choose an opponent. This mana ability will create the chosen color of mana and a delayed triggered ability. This delayed triggered ability will go on the stack at the end of turn and cause the chosen opponent to gain control of Rainbow Vale. This will happen even if Rainbow Vale becomes a Mountain and loses this mana ability.
