Rules Tip of the Day: The owner of a card is the person whose deck and or sideboard it started in at the beginning of the game. This even applies to cards that you may have borrowed; as far as the game is concerned, you are the owner.

Q: My opponent has a bunch of creatures; none of them are tokens. I have a Drove of Elves in play, and several Saproling tokens. In my hand, I have Mirrorweave and Hour of Reckoning. Is there a way I can play those two spells so that the game ends up with only the Saprolings in play, each transformed into Drove of Elves?

A: Yes: play and resolve Mirrorweave, and then play and resolve Hour of Reckoning. Mirrorweave makes all creatures into copies of the targeted Drove of Elves, but it does not make the token copies into non-tokens. Copy effects only affect the characteristics of an object; whether something is a token or not is not a characteristic.

Q: When you cast Fossil Find, does it get reordered in your graveyard during its resolution?

A: No. Fossil Find itself will not go to your graveyard until the very last step of its own resolution. This will be after your graveyard is reordered. After it resolves, the Fossil Find will be the top card of your graveyard.

Q: If you use Wort, the Raidmother to conspire Dawnglow Infusion, paying 3GW, does the copy gain eight life, or does X get copied as 0?

A: Technically speaking, the value of X for this copy is still four, but you will not gain any life. No mana was spent to play this copy, so you will not gain any life. It does not matter what colored mana was spent to play the original.

Q: I have Wheel of Moon and Sun and Fecundity in play, and a creature I own is destroyed. Do I get to draw a card from Fecundity?

A: No. The effect from Wheel of Sun and Moon's ability will cause this creature card to end up going directly from play to the bottom of your library. Because of this, Fecundity's ability will not trigger.

Q: If I have a Prismatic Omen in play and a Reach of Branches in my graveyard, will any land I put into play trigger Reach's ability and return it to my hand?

A: Yes. Any land that enters play under your control will be a Forest, so the ability of a Reach of Branches card in your graveyard will trigger.

Q: I have an Elvish Warrior in play. My opponent plays Incremental Blight, giving my Elvish Warrior three -1/-1 counters. Can I save him with Fate Transfer? Or is he headed for the graveyard no matter what, even if I move the counters onto another creature?

A: No. Immediately after the Incremental Blight resolves, state-based effects are checked. When they are, this -1/0 Elvish Warrior will go to the graveyard. This will happen before anyone gets a chance to play any spells or abilities. In other words, you will not get the chance to play Fate Transfer or move these -1/-1 counters.

Q: I have a question about a combo a friend uses in his deck. He enchants a creature with Weight of Conscience, then taps two creatures and plays Simic Guildmage's 1U ability to move an aura to another creature. Someone else told me that this shouldn't work, for some reason that has to do with timing. Can you clarify this for me?

A: When Weight of Conscience's ability resolves, the creature that is currently enchanted is removed from the game. It does not matter which creature is enchanted when the ability is activated. This combo does not work, because moving the Weight of Conscience does not keep it in play. After the ability resolves, state-based effects are checked, and Weight of Conscience will go to the graveyard.

Q: I have Hostility in play; I play Fling and sacrifice Hostility. Will 6 3/1 elemantals be put into play?

A: No. Hostility's ability only replaces what happens when a spell you control deals damage if Hostility is in play when the damage is dealt. In this situation, you sacrifice Hostility when you play Fling. This means that it will not be in when Fling resolves and deals damage to the targeted opponent.

Q: Can you use regeneration to keep a creature in play if it would be removed from the game by something like Crib Swap?

A: No, regeneration replaces what happens when a permanent would be destroyed, not when it would be removed from the game. You can use a regeneration ability on the creature targeted by Crib Swap, but it will not do anything.

Q: Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni and Throat Slitter attack at the same time and are both unblocked. Can I kill an opponent's creature with Throat Slitter and then return that creature with Ink-Eyes?

A: No. Both of those abilities target. Immediately after combat damage is dealt, both of these abilities will go on the stack and you will choose targets for both of them. The creature you target with Throat Slitter's ability is not in the graveyard yet, so it cannot be targeted by Ink-Eyes' ability.
