Rules Tip of the Day: When a permanent becomes a creature, it does not count as a creature coming into play. Abilities that trigger when a creature comes into play will not trigger.

Q: With the effect of Elemental Mastery, if the tokens are created and the enchanted creature or the Mastery is not in play at end of turn, do the tokens get removed from the game?

A: Yes. When the ability given to the enchanted creature by Elemental Mastery resolves, a delayed triggered ability is created along with the 1/1 tokens. This triggered ability will go on the stack at the beginning of the next end of turn step, whether or not the Elemental Mastery or the enchanted creature are in play any longer. When this triggered ability resolves, the token creatures created by this ability will be removed from the game.

Q: I have a Cemetery Puca in play copying a Reveillark, and another Cemetery Puca in play that is not copying anything. If the Puca / Reveilark goes to the graveyard, can I have the other Puca become a copy of a Reveilark?

A: Yes. When Cemetery Puca's ability resolves and you pay one mana, the Puca will become a copy of the creature that was just in play. It does not copy the card in a graveyard, but the creature that left play. Because of this, it will become a copy of whatever the first Cemetery Puca was copying.

Q: How does Mana Reflection work with cards like Mirari's Wake or Fertile Ground? Do you get the extra mana then that is doubled also or do you double the mana from the land then add one more?

A: The extra mana is generated by Fertile Ground or Mirari's Wake, not by the land that is tapped for mana. Mana Reflection only doubles the mana produced by the tapped permanent. So you will get double the mana from the tapped land, and then add one more.

Q: My opponent has Konda, Lord of Eiganjo with a Pariah's Shield on him. I am attacking with a Blazethorn Scarecrow that has both haste and wither. Not wanting Konda to take the wither damage, he doesn't block. His Pariah's Shield triggers, redirecting the damage to Konda. Does Konda take normal damage or get three -1/-1 counters?

A: Konda will receive three -1/-1 counters. This damage is still from a source with wither, so it will be dealt in the form of -1/-1 counters if it is dealt to a creature. It does not matter that it was originally assigned to a player and then redirected.

Q: What happens to my non-basic lands if there is a Prismatic Omen and a Blood Moon in play?

A: It depends on which of these cards came into play last. The effects from these two cards are not dependent on each other, so the effects are applied in timestamp order. If the Blood Moon came into play last, then all non-basic lands you control will be Mountains. If the Prismatic Omen came into play last, your non-basic lands will have all basic land types.

Q: Can I conspire a spell using the same creature twice? For example, can I play Barkshell Blessing and tap a Devoted Druid for conspire, untap it using its own ability, and then tap the same Devoted Druid?

A: No. Conspire is paid at the same time that all costs associated with the spell are paid. No one get the opportunity to play spells and abilities at this time; you you need to tap two different creatures to pay the cost.

Q: I have two Drowner Initiates in play. I play Memory Sluice. Then I tap the two Drowners for conspire and pay for the abilities of the Drowners. How many cards does my opponent put into his graveyard? Is it 16? Eight because of Memory Sluice and another eight because of the Drowner Initiates?

A: No, just 12. Drowner Initiate's ability only triggers when you play a blue spell. Conspire puts a copy of a spell on the stack; this copy is not played. Because of this, each Drowner ability will only trigger once. In this example you will only mill 12 cards: four for the Memory Sluice, four for its copy, and two for each Drowner trigger.

Q: Can you counter Ashenmoor Leige without taking damage?

A: Yes. Its ability only triggers when it is a permanent in play and it is targeted. The ability will not trigger when Ashenmoor Liege is in a spell on the stack.

Q: Raking Canopy is in play under my control. I also control a Garruk Wildspeaker. If my opponent attacks with creatures with flying, do they still take four damage from Raking Canopy, even if they choose to assign damage to Garruk Wildspeaker?

A: To clarify, if your opponent wants to deal damage to your planeswalker, then he needs to attack it and not you. Combat damage to a player is not redirected to a planeswalker controlled by that player. If he does attack your planeswalker, then Raking Canopy's ability will not trigger. That ability only triggers when a creature with flying attacks you, not when a creature with flying attacks a planeswalker you control.
