Rules Tip of the Day: When a permanent changes controllers, it does not count as coming into or leaving play, so abilities that trigger on either of those two things happening will not trigger.
Q: I have three blue creatures in play, and my opponent plays Shriekmaw during his main phase. I then cast Glamerdye on the Shriekmaw, changing the color word "black" to "blue". Does Shriekmaw then destroy itself because it is the only legal target?
A: Yes, as long as you target the Shreikmaw spell, and not the Shreikmaw permanent after it enters play. If you let the Shriekmaw enter play and then change the text on the Shriekmaw, you will not change the text of the ability on the stack. However, if you target the Shriekmaw spell, then it will enter play with the altered text, and its triggered ability on the stack will match the altered text.
Q: Can you stack multiple activations of Idle Thoughts to draw more than one card?
A: You can activate it multiple times, but when the next activation resolves, you won't draw another card, unless you find a way to get rid of the one you previously drew. Idle Thoughts ability checks your hand when it resolves and you draw a card if you have no cards in hand at that point. Technically speaking, you can activate Idle Thought's ability anytime, regardless of the number of cards you have in hand.
Q: How does Bloom Tender's ability work, exactly? Does it mean that, for example, if you control four green / white permanents and Bloom Tender, you gain five green mana and four white mana when you tap it?
A: No, in this example you will only add one green mana and one white mana to your mana pool. Bloom Tender's ability can only add up to five mana, and then only if you control a permanent of each of the five different colors. That ability looks at the different colors of the permanents you control, not the number of permanents you control.
Q: What happens if I play Beckon Apparition while all graveyards are empty? Do I still get the spirit token?
A: Beckon Apparition targets a card in a graveyard; if all graveyards are empty, you cannot even play the spell. So no, you will not get a spirit token, as you cannot legally play it.
Q: If I play Batwing Brume, spending two black mana during my main phase, am I right to assume that no one will lose any life, since there are no attacking creatures? (I am playing Batwing Brume solely to trigger Nightsky Mimic during my own turn.)
A: Correct. Batwing Brume only causes loss of life when it resolves. If, when it resolves, there are no attacking creatures, then no one will lose any life.
Q: Is it possible to use Snakeform to counter Oona, Queen of the Fae's activated ability?
A: Not really. If the ability has been activated, then it will still resolve, even if Oona no longer has the ability. If Snakeform is played first, then the controller of Oona can respond by playing its ability.
Q: If I have a Darksteel Colossus in my library and my opponent activates his Grindstone / Painter's Servant combo targeting me, will this create an infinite loop resulting in a draw?
A: No. Eventually you will get to the point that the only card remaining in your library is a Darksteel Colossus. When this happens, Grindstone's ability will not repeat, as you are only milling one card. However, this does create a loop if you have two copies of Darksteel Colossus in your library.
Q: If I use Ghostway while I have Reaper King and other Scarecrows in play, will Reaper King's ability trigger when they return to play?
A: Yes, Reaper King's ability will trigger for each Scarecrow that is put into play under your control at the same time that it is.
Q: I have three copies of Reach of Branches in my graveyard. When I put a Forest into play, will that Forest trigger the ability of each Reach of Branches in the graveyard?
A: Yes, the abilities of all three copies of Reach of Branches in your graveyard will trigger when a Forest comes into play under your control. When each of these resolves, you can choose to return that particular Reach of Branches.
Q: When my Parallel Thoughts is Disenchanted, can I still draw from the removed pile?
A: No, that only works when Parallel Thoughts is in play. Once it leaves play, the cards that were removed from the game will remain there, and you won't be able to draw them anymore.
