  Pack 1 pick 1:

  My Pick:

I've faced this card twice so far, and it was always a nightmare. You have to draw first for it to be a bomb though, so I'm not willing to go very aggro.

  Pack 1 pick 2:

  My Pick:

Surprisingly, in this format, Remove Soul is about as good as Ghostly Visit. As the real deal creatures usually don’t come until turn 5, you don’t even have to restrain from playing guys in the first turns to keep the mana open, Remove Soul will always be useful.

  Pack 1 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Were there really two cards better than this in the pack? Well, at least I guess white is open!

  Pack 1 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Banshee is the best card here, but if my deck can feature either the 0/1 or Shu General plus Remove Soul, I’ll go with the latter.

  Pack 1 pick 5:

  My Pick:

There are not that many removal spells for UW mages in that format. I’m glad I already have one, or two if we count Remove Soul.

  Pack 1 pick 6:

  My Pick:

  Pack 1 pick 7:

  My Pick:

Pretty good in this format, as most key creatures are legends.

Yes, I know, being materialistic is bad. The right pick for the deck obviously is Lu Meng.

  Pack 2 pick 2:

  Pack 2 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Fellwar Stone is pretty good with Land Tax, but Remove Soul is still a better card.

  Pack 2 pick 4:

  My Pick:

Land Tax could help splash it.

  Pack 2 pick 5:
Mountain

  My Pick:

A little more annoying than Hunting Cheetah I think.

  Pack 2 pick 6:

  Pack 2 pick 7:

  My Pick:

I’d take the 2/4 if I didn’t already have 3.

  Pack 2 pick 8:

  My Pick:

Another pretty good card I could possibly splash with Land Tax. Let’s now see if I can get Fellwar Stone or Sol Grail to support a splash.

  Pack 2 pick 9:

  My Pick:

I like pingers less and less in this format. They usually don’t kill a thing if they don’t come by pair.

Chain Lightning is a slightly better card, but I’m not sure to play the Red removal while the Plan is in for sure.

Mountain

  My Pick:

I like Shu General better, but my I have more 4 mana creatures than any other cost.

  Pack 3 pick 3:

  My Pick:

Once again the Minotaur is another four drop. Also, the 1/2 can benefit from my Crusade guy.

I will understand it later on this draft, but I clearly underestimate Sword of the Ages, which should have been my pick.

I decided to run Swamp and Wandering Mage over Mountain and Fire Ambush to give a chance to the 0/3, which I’ve never seen in action before.

In the first round my RB opponent mulligans, and has the funny idea to play Spirit Shackles on my vigilant Shu General. This “second mulligan,” along with a good draw on my side, leaves him not much of a chance. The following game is also a win, but it shouldn’t have been, as he has made repeated mistakes again.

In round 2 I’m facing a WB control deck. I choose to draw and play Land Tax on turn 7, when he has one land more than me. Four turns later, I’ve no land left in the deck, and a good control presence on the board. Until he draws Sword of the Ages and deals me the 11 damage he needs. In the second game I stay barely outside of his annoying artifact range, so I choose to board in Disenchant, but in the third, once again, the expensive artifact gives him the win on its own, as The Wretched and a pair of D'Avenant Archers open the path.

Until Friday...

Oli
