Screw you, Rizzo.
So you want to fade away silently like a ghost? You want to be the guy no one knows what happened to?
Tough s**t. You are our issue boy.
If you think you can just decide one day to waltz out of the Magic scene quietly and no one will notice? You are dead wrong. For the last three weeks, I have checked StarCity everyday in hopes of seeing your bald head. The three-week pause was certainly an inconsistency... But never did I expect you, the guru of Magic writing, the most self righteous of the self righteous, to abandon your post.
And to do it without warning is nothing short of irresponsible.
Screw you, Rizzo.
You think by leaving all your readers high and dry, you are going to be elevated to some Wakefieldesque status?
You hypocrite.
Aren't you the one who always told us to write? Told us to try it even if we didn't have much to say? Even if we didn't have a lot of time - to just try and squeeze in an article to better our community? And now you're going to drop your pen and not tell anyone?
What do you think would happen if Johnny Carson had just stopped showing up for the late show without any announcement? Do you think America would have honored him? I don't.
So you want to get on with your life? You want to write plays? That's great. It's good to see people move on. But dammit, this is not the way to do it.
Screw you, Rizzo.
You owe us.
Yeah, that's right. As much as it may seem the other way around, we are the ones who gave you the extra confidence you needed. We are the ones who read every one of your articles religiously. We are the ones who tuned in to Star City every single day just to listen to your rants. We gave you a place to grow, a place to rant, and a place to write.
And what do you do?
You run off like some little coward, afraid to face your public for that one final article. Don't you think we deserve it? Haven't we written you responses to every single one of your columns? Haven't our e-mails been the inspiration for more than one of these articles?
And you run off and don't even tell us what's happening?
Screw you, Rizzo.
You screwed us. You wanna whine about the Magic community and writing scene. Well aren't you the one who always told us to stop whining and do something? You abandon us now? As all the Magic sites are falling to pieces, our one sure thing - the one place we were sure we would be able to find entertainment - left us. And he wasn't even going to let us know he'd done it.
You want to talk about IDers and netdeckers? They just won. That's right, they just won... And it's because of you. You wanna fight the good fight? Then act like it. Don't leave us hanging waiting for your next article, an article that will never come. Act responsible. Quit your job; don't just stop showing up.
Haven't we been good to you? I think so.
Screw you, Rizzo.
Your lucky you have an editor as good as The Ferrett to save your ass. That two-page e-mail, which I'm sure you didn't even want to be posted, is hardly a farewell letter. You can do better than that. The Ferrett is covering for you. Don't you think you owed him a final article?
Out like a ghost my ass.
You think you can fade out like a ghost... You're one of the best there ever was. Your public is not going to let you slip away unnoticed. Three weeks may have gone by... But sooner or later people would have caught on, and we would be seeing the same thing we are seeing now.
And you readers: Don't put this guy on a pedestal. He was going to abandon you and not even let you know why or what was happening. Don't write to honor him. He doesn't deserve it right now. Yeah, he's written amazing articles... But they are all torn apart, along with his lessons, if he doesn't follow them.
Screw you, Rizzo.
We don't want excuses; we want you to write, even if it's just to say goodbye. We want that last article - and you owe it to us. You owe it to your readers, to your fellow writers, to The Ferrett, and to yourself. And you know you do. Do you want to be remembered? Go out on top. Don't fade away and let your ideals fade with them.
Say goodbye, and make us proud.
