Deckstacker Puzzles

Have you ever wondered about what is the fastest possible way to win a Type 2... If you could stack your deck any way you want? How about how fast it is possible to get an infinite combo going or a twenty-damage burn spell? If you have, this article is for you. If you haven't, maybe this article can help you start thinking about puzzles like those.

In this article, I am going to give puzzles for you to solve using only certain sets. Some puzzles look rather simple, but the answer is much more complicated than you might think. Also, there will be Magic Online cards as prizes.

Let me not waste your time and get straight to the puzzles.

These puzzles are in order of difficulty, with the easiest first:

  1. What is the largest number of cards you can get into your graveyard in a Standard game on your first turn if you go first?
  2. What is the least number of turns your opponent and you must play to be at 50 life in Type 2 without any Seventh Edition or Planeshift cards with a casting cost of three mana or more?
  3. How many turns must your opponent play before you can play Ghitu Fire for 20 in Type 2 and how?

Now here are the rules for your submissions -

  1. In this contest, make believe that every time you shuffle your deck that you are so good at sleight of hand that you rearrange your entire library to suit. I call these Deckstacker puzzles because of this. You also stack the deck when you start the game.
  2. You must be using a deck of more at least sixty cards (I don't actually give a decklist).
  3. You must not use cards like Fact or Fiction where the opponent chooses something (though you can use cards that affect the opponent, like Earthquake).
  4. You must have you answer in the following format:
    1. For every turn, you write "Turn X:" (where x is what turn it is)
    2. Before each turn you write "A/B/C/D," where A is the number of cards used total before the following turn (cards used includes cards brought into play from your library or another zone, like Rampant Growth), B is the number of cards in your hand before the following turn, C is the number of cards in your graveyard, and D is your life total.
    3. You do the same A/B/C/D thing after the last turn.

So here is an example using this formatting:

0/7/0/20

Turn 1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
2/6/1/20

Turn 2: Mountain, Lotus Petal, Channel for 19, Fireball opponent for 20.

6/2/3/1

There will be one winner for each puzzle. I will give the winner of the first puzzle three online boosters of Odyssey, Planeshift and Apocalypse. The winner of the second puzzle will get five online boosters of Odyssey, Planeshift, and Apocalypse. The winner of the last and hardest puzzle will get twelve packs of Odyssey, Planeshift, and Apocalypse (I may also give an extra bonus prize to the winner of the last puzzle). All boosters and cards are for Magic Online Beta Testing. (These are virtual cards with no real value). These boosters will only be given out until the original Magic Online Beta Testing accounts are deleted.

The winner is the person who -

  1. Has the right answer.
  2. Uses the least amount of cards to achieve the goal.
  3. Loses the least amount of life in achieving the goal.
  4. Sends the submission in fastest.

Everything besides the first submission is just a sort of tiebreaker in that order. So if two people have the exact same answer in all ways then and only then will I count the person who submitted first.

Don't forget that you can't use more cards than are in your hand (so if you go first, you have seven cards and if you go second you have eight cards).

The deadline is next Monday.

Lastly and most importantly email all submissions too The__Devils__Advocate___@hotmail.com.

Thank you for reading this and good luck on these puzzles.
