Sheldon Menery

As a flood of emails has reminded me, you only get Bears for non-token creatures going to the 'yard. Additionally, the Firecat Blitz tokens are removed from the game at end of turn; they don't trigger any goes-to-the-graveyard abilities.

Sorry for the mix-up. I violated my own rule about reading the card first. No excuses.

Q: Can you misdirect a sorcery like Doomsday with Misdirection?

A: No, because it's not targeted--it says"you." You can only Misdirect targeted spells.

Q: Does Circular Logic count itself? Namely, when you cast it and have an empty graveyard, does the opponent have to pay no or one mana? Does this change when the Madness ability is used instead?

A: He pays zero. It doesn't count itself, because it's not in the graveyard, it's still on the stack. A card goes to the graveyard (or is put into play, if it's a permanent) as the last part of resolution of the spell (rule 413.2h).

Q: If I Fork a card with the storm ability, do I get the storm ability for the copy of the spell?

A: No. Storm only triggers on playing the spell. The rule specifically says"When you play this spell..." (rule 502.30a).

Q: Let's say I play a Jinxed Idol, then sacrifice Celestial Gatekeeper to give it to my opponent. I put True Believer into play as part of the Celestial Gatekeeper's ability (or have it in play by any other means, I suppose). True Believer's ability should prevent me from getting Jinxed Idol back, as it says"target" opponent in its ability.

Can my opponent still sacrifice a creature to get rid of Jinxed Idol, or must he choose himself as only valid target?

A: The first part's correct. He can't target you to give you back the Idol. The answer to the second part is"no." He doesn't have a valid target; he must target an opponent, and he certainly (regardless of how badly he plays) isn't his own opponent.

Q: On my opponent's turn, before his attack, he plays Oubliette on my Norritt. I tap the Norritt for his instant ability to force his hapless Drudge Skeletons to attack my 2/2 troll.. Since I put the effect on the stack last, does it resolve before Norritt is phased out and forces the skeletons to attack, or is Norritt locked away before I can even tap him for his ability?

A: You can respond to the spell or the Oubliette's coming-into-play ability by activating the Norritt. The Norritt's ability will resolve before the Oubliette, making the hapless (your word) Skeletons attack. It's classic last-in, first-out.

Q: The basic question is, can I use a Lion´s Eye Diamond to cast an Arrogant Wurm with Madness that has been discarded as part of the activation cost of Lion´s Eye Diamond?

What this boils down to is: Does the ability of the Lion's Eye Diamond use the stack, that is does it have to resolve, before I have the mana in my pool, or does it not?

A: You discard the Wurm as part of the cost of activating the LED. You remove the Wurm from the game instead of putting it in your graveyard, a replacement effect. The Wurm's Madness ability triggers. You can't yet put it on the stack, because LED is a mana ability (even though you can only play it when you can play an Instant), so the LED will resolve before you get priority to put the Wurm's Madness trigger on the stack. The trigger goes on the stack, and the active player gets priority. When the trigger resolves, you can, until you next pass priority, play the Wurm - and you have GGG (I assume that's what you got from the LED) in your pool to do so.

Q: Glacial Chasm is my problem. It says I can't attack, and all damage dealt to me is reduced to zero - so can I attack with creatures or sorceries or instants or abilities?

A: It says"skip your combat phase." That means you can't attack with creatures. Targeting your opponent with sorceries, instants, and abilities, isn't considered attacking.

Q: If I use a Doomed Necromancer to take a Rotlung Reanimator out of my grave and into play, will the"Whenever Rotlung Reanimator or another Cleric is put into a graveyard from play, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token into play." Take effect when the Necromancer is put into the grave, or will the sacrifice of the Necro happen before the Reanimator comes back into play?

A: The sacrifice of the Necromancer will happen when you activate its ability, as part of the cost. It will be gone long before the Rotlung comes into play.
