Q: I have Seedborn Muse and Stasis in play. My question is a question of semantics. Seedborn Muse changes the rules of the game for me, as I untap during my opponents untap step. My question is that Stasis makes my opponent and myself skip our untap step - but do I skip his untap step? In other words, does Stasis remove the untap step altogether?

A: Stasis makes the Untap step never happen. Seedborn Muse/Stasis is not a combo.

Q: If I have Decree of Silence out, what would happen if I were to Stifle the sacrificing effect when it got its third counter?

A: You can't, because it's not an activated or triggered ability. It's part of the ability that puts the third counter on Decree of Silence, and resolves before players get priority.

Q: If I activate a Nevinyrral's Disk, can someone regenerate their creature since it's being destroyed? Also can I pay one mana for a Soul Net when the Disked creatures goes into the graveyard, or does my Soul Net get destroyed before it sees the creature go in?

A: A creature can regenerate from the Disk. And if multiple creatures go to the graveyard at the same time as the Soul Net, the Soul Net will trigger for each creature; you can pay and gain the life.

Q: If I have an Upwelling in play, could my brother tap his three swamps at the end of my turn and get three more black mana? If so, how is that possible to use three mana and end up with six?

A: At the end of your turn, he can tap three swamps to get three black mana. With Upwelling in play, that mana stays in his pool until he spends it. His lands untap on his own turn, and he can then tap the swamps again to give him a total of six.

Q: Does Intervene effectively counter Arc Lightning if it has two targets, or just counter the effect for one target?

A: It counters the spell, regardless of how many targets it has (so long as it's at least one creature). It counters the whole spell.

Q: Can you play two Glyph of Lifes on a single wall on the same turn and get double the life points?

A: Yes. Both will trigger.

Q: I have Ascendant Evincar in play, and my opponent has a Steadfast Guard in play that has been turned into a 1/1 by the Evincar's continuous ability. Now, if I play another Evincar, I understand that it will be placed in the graveyard after it comes into play, because of the Legends rule. However, does the second -1/-1 continuous ability trigger at all? Does her Steadfast Guard live or die?

A: The Ascendant Evincar's ability doesn't trigger; it's a continuous ability. It comes into play, giving the 1/1 Guard an additional -1/-1. Then you check State-Based Effects; both the new Evincar and the Guard are put in the graveyard (rule 420.5).

Q: I have a question about Sliver Overlord... I have a Ward Sliver in play and have chosen the color black. Since black is in the Overlord's mana cost, can I use his ability to gain control of a target sliver?

A: You can't. It doesn't matter what color you've chosen for the Ward Sliver; because the Overlord is all five colors, you can't target Slivers with the Overlord's ability.

Q: If I attack with a Symbiotic Elf and my opponent blocks with a Death's-Head Buzzard, do the tokens die? I think that the tokens will live because the active player's ability goes on the stack first (the Elf's insects) then the -1/-1. So won't all creatures get -1/-1, then the tokens come into play??

A: You're right; the tokens will live because the non-active player's trigger will resolve first.

Q: If I Lightning Bolt Forgotten Ancient, does it live because I played a spell?

A: Yes, it lives. The Bolt goes on the stack, and then the Forgotten Ancient's trigger. The trigger resolves first, making it 1/4. The Bolt then does three damage to it.

Q: Can Stifle counter Meddling Mage's ability? If yes, can I first know which card he wants to prevent from being played, then Stifle the ability? If not, what kind of ability is this? A static ability?

Can the same be done to Flametongue Kavu, waiting for a target and then Stifling it?

A: Stifle cannot affect Meddling Mage's ability, but it can counter Flametongue Kavu's. The difference is that the Mage's ability is worded"as ~this~ comes into play..." as opposed to"when ~this~ comes into play." The former is part of the resolution of the spell or ability that puts it into play; the latter is a triggered ability.

Q: With Royal Assassin coming back in 8th Edition, it brought back an old question I had.

How does the Royal Assassin's ability to destroy tapped creatures interact with creatures like Serra Angel, which have"Attacking doesn't cause <creature name or type> to tap"?

A: Just like in the olden days, Serra Angel is immune to Royal Assassin after attacking. Creatures that don't tap to attack simply ignore the"taps the chosen creature" part of 308.2c. Serra never becomes tapped.

Q: My opponent has Lethal Vapors in play. I activate its ability to destroy it by skipping my next turn. My opponent responds by Oblating it. Does the entire effect fizzle, or do I still have to skip my next turn?

A: You must still skip your next turn; it's the cost of activating the ability, and once it's paid, you can't get it back.

Q: This situation came up the other weekend during a draft, of all things. After being in a bit of a defensive position, I played Dimensional Breach as a way to reset the board and give me some more time. At some point before all permanents from the Breach had been returned to play, I played a second Dimensional Breach.

After our fair share of debating back and forth, the consensus among our players was that during each player's upkeep, two permanents would come back into play - one from each"pile" that had been removed by each individual Breach. I'm still not totally convinced that this was the proper way of resolving this, and I'd really like your opinion on this matter.

A: The removed cards are tied to the Dimensional Breach that removed them, so you'd end up with two piles. You played it properly.

Q: I wonder if an Animate Dead and Eradicate combo would be legal, where you cast Animate Dead on a to make it a creature and then Eradicated it, thus destroying all of a person's lands.

A: You can't Animate Dead a land; Animate Dead does not make something a creature.

If you have some other way of animating one of your opponent's lands and then Eradicating it, you'll be able to search and remove all the lands with that same name.

Q: When a creature is given Haste under a static ability (like Fervor or Goblin Warchief) the turn it comes into play, will destroying the source of that ability prevent my opponent from attacking with that creature that turn?

A: Yes. As soon as the source of a continuous effect leaves play, the continuous effect stops. If you destroy the Warchief before attackers are declared, for example, the creatures become unable to attack. But once attackers are declared, it's too late to kill the Warchief; the creatures will still attack.
