Q: I have a Thought Prison imprinted with Consume Spirit. I also have an Isochron Scepter imprinted with Terror. If Isochron Scepter is activated, will it trigger the Thought Prison?

A: Yes, it will, because you're actually playing a spell when you activate the Scepter, and Terror shares a color with Consume Spirit.

Q: If you remove all five counters from Pentavus does the creature die?

A: Yes, because its toughness is zero. It's put into the graveyard as a State-Based Effect.

Q: If I play a spell that lets me gain control of a target enchantment on my opponent's Parallel Thoughts, can I draw the cards?

A: Any time you would draw a card, you may choose to replace the draw with putting a card from the pile you removed into your hand - but because you didn't remove any cards (your opponent removed them, not you), you don't get a card. You simply end up having a draw replaced with nothing.

Q: Is Bosh, Iron Golem able to sacrifice himself?

A: Yes, because the ability doesn't say it can't (like Lord of the Pit does).

Q: If I have an Auriok Steelshaper in play with Empyrial Plate on it, and no other creatures in play, can I pay the equip cost of Empyrial Plate to move it off the Steelshaper so that it's not attached to anything?

A: No, you can't"unequip." The only way to get it off the Steelshaper is to Equip something else.

Q: Can you prevent the damage from a Pyrite Spellbomb with a Circle of Protection: Red?

A: Pyrite Spellbomb is colorless; it doesn't matter what color mana is spent on the activation. Protection from Red or CoP: Red don't apply. Protection from Artifacts would.

Q: If I use Duplicant and imprint my opponent's Akroma, Angel of Wrath, I can then play an Akroma of my own, because the other is still named Duplicant?

Further, if I understand it correctly, I can play more Duplicants, but I cannot Imprint any legendary creature (like Rorix) and have my Duplicant live, because when imprint resolves, I would have two cards named Duplicant with the Legend Subtype? So Rorix would be removed from the game, and the second Duplicant would go to the Yard as a state-based effect when Imprint resolves?

A: You're right. Duplicant doesn't acquire the Imprinted creature's name. Subsequent Duplicants Imprinting Legends will be creature removal only because of the reason you list.

Q: If you play Mourner's Shield or Thought Prison and imprint an artifact (or even a land in the case of Mourner's Shield), does the damage prevention/dealing occur on artifacts? If I remove an artifact, does Mourner's Shield prevent two when I activate on an artifact source? If I remove an artifact with Thought Prison, does two damage occur when an artifact is cast?

A: Artifacts are colorless, so if you Imprint an artifact on Mourner's Shield, it won't prevent anything. It's the same with Thought Prison; nothing will happen because artifacts are colorless.

Q: I was wondering if there is a chance that a Slith can deal damage to a player even when it's blocking in order to get the +1/+1 counter? For instance, if I have a Slith blocking and equipped with Viridian Longbow, can I tap it after damage goes on the stack to have the Longbow ping the player? Is this considered as combat-damage?

A: Combat damage comes only from creatures attacking or blocking. Activated abilities, like that granted by the Longbow, aren't combat damage. You'll do a point of damage, but the Slith-inflating trick doesn't work.

Q: If I have a Savannah Lion equipped with a Bonesplitter, and I put a fate counter on the Lion with Oblivion Stone and then blow the Stone, would the Bonesplitter stay?

A: No. The only permanents not destroyed are those with fate counters on them. Any enchantments or equipment attached to a creature will be destroyed.

Q: I play an affinity deck composed mostly of artifact creatures with Patriarch's Bidding as the game breaker. After sacrificing all of my artifact creatures to my Megatog, I played a Patriarch's Bidding on the second main phase naming"Artifact creatures." My brother said this wasn't right, since you can see on the new Myr cards that they have a different creature type other than"Artifact Creature" and said that I had to specify. I said that I didn't need to since there are artifact creatures, like Phyrexian War Beast and Ornithopter, that don't specify a creature type. Which one of us is correct?

A: Your brother is right."Artifact" isn't a creature type. If an Artifact Creature doesn't have a creature subtype (like"Myr"), then you can't bring it back with Patriarch's Bidding.

Q: When is the number of counters on Jinxed Choker checked? Is it when the ability goes on the stack, or when it resolves? Or some other wacky time?

A: The Choker counts the number of counters on resolution of the triggered ability. If you sacrifice the Choker, the game will look at it as it existed just before it left play (what we call"last known information"). You'll take damage equal to how many counters it had at that time. You can put the ability on the stack and then pay to remove counters, thus lessening the pain.

Q: If a Consume Spirit targets a goblin and the goblin is sacrificed in response, does the life gain take place?

A: The spell is countered on resolution because its target is invalid (rule 413.2a). No life is gained.

Q: If I have a Culling Scales and Tel-Jilad Chosen in play, and my opponent has a Spikeshot Goblin in play, what would happen when the Scales triggers? The Chosen has the lowest mana cost, but it cannot be targeted by the Scales.

A: If the nonland permanent with the lowest converted mana cost can't be targeted by Culling Scales, then nothing will be destroyed (see similar rulings on Drop of Honey and the like).

Q: Can I play Leveler, and then Stifle the triggered ability that would remove my library from the game?

A: Yes. Leveler has a comes-into-play triggered ability, which is a valid target for Stifle.
