Q: Since we now know a card title and mechanic from Fifth Dawn, can we clarify the rules? Does Crucible of Worlds allow any extra abilities on lands to be played from the graveyard, such as cycling?
A: Just like Yawgmoth's Will and other cards that let you play things out of your graveyard, the cards are not in your hand. You can't cycle them, discard them, or do anything else other than play them when you could normally play a land.
Q: This weekend in a Mirrodin/Weatherlight/Apocalypse draft (which was pretty fun), an opponent had out a Sculpting Steel, which had copied a Wizard Replica. I destroyed the Sculpting Steel with an Electrostatic Bolt; he then sacrificed an Angelic Renewal to return the Sculpting Steel. Is that legal?
We decided yes, because"Whenever a creature is put into your graveyard from play, you may sacrifice Angelic Renewal. If you do, return that creature to play" makes no reference to it needing to be a creature card. Could Angelic Renewal return a Treetop Village that was activated before going to the graveyard? Would Enduring Renewal work the same way?
A: Angelic Renewal does indeed have a triggered ability. It triggers on a creature being put in the graveyard, and only cares that it was a creature when it left play, so it could bring back an animated Treetop Village or your Steel-copied Replica.
Enduring Renewal works the same way.
Q: I am 90% sure on this, but I would just like to make sure. I think that Detonate can destroy the artifact lands (like Ancient Den, Seat of the Synod, and so forth) by just paying one red. Will this work, or does Detonate not work on the artifact lands?
A: You should now be 100% sure. Artifact lands are valid targets for Detonate, and their converted mana cost is zero.
Q: My opponent has a Brass Man and Worship in play, has no other creatures, and is at one life. I cast Detonate on his Brass Man. Does my opponent take any damage?
I'm guessing that he does, since Brass Man is destroyed while resolving Detonate, right before the player takes damage during that same resolution...
A: The opponent would take damage. You follow the instructions as they're listed on the card. First, you put the Brass Man in the 'yard. Then you deal damage. When it comes to the damage, the opponent has no creatures, so Worship's effect doesn't apply.
Q: Just a quick question in relation to Chalice of the Void and Goblin Warchief. With a Warchief in play, goblins cost you one less. So would a Chalice with three charge counters on it be able to counter a Goblin Goon, which usually costs 3R but now costs 2R? Or would it counter a Goblin Sharpshooter, which is usually 2R but now only requires 1R to cast?
A: Nothing ever changes the converted mana cost of a spell. The Chalice with three counters will never counter the Goon and always counter the Sharpshooter, the Warchief notwithstanding.
Q: I attack with a creature equipped with Banshee's Blade and it is blocked. After damage goes on the staff, but before it is dealt, the blocking creature is sacrificed. So does the Banshee's Blade still receive a charge counter?
A: No. The ability doesn't trigger until the damage is actually dealt, not when it goes on the stack. If a creature that was supposed to receive combat damage is no longer in play or is no longer a creature, the damage assigned to it isn't dealt (rule 310.4c).
Q: Can I use Twiddle to untap Time Vault, put a counter on it with Power Conduit, and then take another turn?
A: No. Time Vault says you can only play the ability if it has a"time counter," which can only be added to it by activating its turn-skipping ability. Power Conduit will only put a"charge counter" on an artifact (or a +1/+1 counter on a creature).
