Q: In a Multiplayer game with two people, I have a Geth's Grimoire in play. During my main phase I play a Memory Jar and sacrifice it. At then end of the turn, everyone discards their hand. I then draw fourteen cards (since no one was able to play a card). I believe that I get to keep my cards, because my discard phase is before my end-of-turn step. My opponents don't think I do get to keep all of my cards and I have to discard down to seven. Who is correct?
A: Your friends are correct. Discard isn't a phase. It's an action that happens during the Cleanup Step, which is after the End of Turn Step. You'll have to discard.
Q: My opponent has a Zombie Master in play with a Loxodon Warhammer and a Dragon Shadow on it. I use Confiscate to take Zombie Master. What happens to the equipment and the enchant creature on it? Do I get them with the creature?
A: They stay attached, but your opponent still controls them. The good news is that the Warhammer grants an ability to the creature, so if it deals damage, you'll gain the life, assuming it's still attached. The bad news is that your opponent can likely equip the Warhammer onto something else before you get to attack with it.
Q: Do I gain 11 life if I Crumble my own Darksteel Colossus?
A: Yes. The Colossus is still a legal target when Crumble resolves, so it's not countered. You follow all the instructions of Crumble as well as you can. It can't destroy the Colossus, so you continue on. There's no"if you do" clause that makes the life gain conditional.
Q: My friends are saying that giving a creature -X/-X until end of turn will kill a creature with indestructible on it. I don't think this is so, correct me if I am wrong, -X/-X is a"destroy" ability, not directly, but it is.
A: 0 toughness is not a destroy ability, it's a state-based effect. Indestructible creatures will die to having 0 toughness.
Q: I cast Essence Drain on a creature, and the creature is removed from play before it resolves do I still gain the life? The life gain and damage seem to be independent from each other, but I just wanted to make sure.
A: No, you don't gain the life. The life gain and damage are independent, but if the target is removed, Essence Drain will be countered on resolution. If the target remains but the damage is prevented, you'd still gain the life.
Q: If I Echoing Ruin a Pest token and there are four other ones out, and my opponent responds by casting Razor Barrier on the Pest that I targeted, would the other ones die ?
A: No. Echoing Ruin will be countered on resolution because its target is invalid (it now has Protection from Red).
Q: My Opponent has a Spikeshot Goblin Equipped with a Sword of Fire and Ice. He then activates the Goblin ability to hit me for 3. In response, I Unforge the Sword. What happens? My opponent said that when Unforge resolves, it does two things - it destroys the Sword and does two damage to the Goblin, but because the game does not check for state based effects while a spell is resolving, the game never"sees" the Goblin without the Sword's"protection from Red." Therefore, the two damage from Unforge is reduced to zero. I said that when the Equipment is hit with the Unforge, its destroyed and then the Unforge does two damage to the Goblin. Who's correct?
Furthermore, my opponent said that even if I was correct, I would take three damage from the activation. His theory is that the Goblin activates, and then I play Unforge. When and if the Sword and the Goblin go to the graveyard, the game must rely on"Last Known Information" and my opponent claimed that the"LKI" of the Goblin was that it was a 3/4 creature. He further stated that if the Unforge kills the Goblin, the game never has an opportunity to"see" the Goblin as a 1/2 - only as a 3/4. Again I say that Unforge does two things - destroys the Equipment, and then does two damage, giving the game plenty of time to"see" the Goblin as a 1/2. How much damage am I taking?
A: Your opponent is wrong.
As soon as the first part of Unforge resolves, the Sword is removed from the Spikeshot. Then, the second part deals two damage to the Goblin. If that's enough to destroy it, then it's put in the 'yard. When the Spikeshot's ability resolves, it looks for its current power; it's no longer in play, so it uses LKI. When the Goblin left play, it was one, so it'll only deal one damage.
Q: Does Titania's Song (or a similar effect such as March of the Machines and Humility) remove indestructible?
Also, If I have Mycosynth Lattice in play and my opponent plays Titania's Song, what happens?
A: No, they don't. Indestructible isn't a keyword ability (Darksteel FAQ), so it won't be removed by Titania's Song or Humility. Even if it were an ability, it wouldn't be removed by March of the Machines, because it doesn't specifically say that it removes abilities (like the other two do).
Q: I have a Molder Slug and Neurok Transmuter in play. My opponent doesn't have any artifacts left, because I've killed and/or he's sacrificed them all. Am I correct is assuming that during his draw phase I can pay a U to activate the Transmuter's ability and turn one of his creatures into an artifact, which he must then sacrifice during his upkeep?
A: No, because the Draw Step comes after Upkeep. You can, however, put the Molder Slug's ability on the stack and then respond by turning one of his creatures into an artifact. He'll have to sacrifice it when the Slug's ability resolves.
Q: Does using Chain of Vapor count towards storm? The idea here is part of a Brain Freeze deck. As a final thrust, casting Chain of Vapor on my own board, sac'ing cards and re-using the ability to create a massive stormed Brain Freeze.
I've also seen this card discussed in relation to Temporal Fissure, and affinity. The same question applies. A friend of mine says that it doesn't count, since the Chain of Vapor doesn't say 'play' and the copies just go immediately to the stack.
A: Your friend is right. Only the original Chain is played; the copies are merely put on the stack. The copies won't count for Storm.
