Q: If I have an Arcbound Ravager with 1 counter on it in play and an Ornithopter, can I sacrifice the Ravager to itself, therefore giving the Ornithopter +2/+2?

A: No. You play the sacrifice ability, sacrificing the Ravager. It goes on the stack, triggering the Modular ability. The Modular ability resolves, giving the Ornithopter one counter, because that's how many the Ravager had last time it was in play. The sacrifice ability resolves, and does nothing; because the Ravager is no longer in play, there's nothing for the counters to go on.

Q: My opponent had a 1/1 creature in play and he played Flickering Ward from his hand to give it Protection from Green. I played Shock on the creature in response. Therefore, the Flickering Ward had no legal target and was countered on resolution. He wanted to pay the white mana to put it back in his hand, but I said he couldn't. Is this right?

A: Yes, that's correct. The Flickering Ward was still on the stack. You can only activate its ability when it's in play. Note that you don't choose the color on announcement; you choose it as part of the resolution of the Flickering Ward spell.

Q: Can I regenerate my opponent's creature with Debt of Loyalty? If so, what happens if I use Debt of Loyalty and my opponent uses some other regeneration effect?

A: Yes, you can use Debt of Loyalty on your opponent's creature; in fact, it's probably the best use for the card. If both you and your opponent put regeneration shields on his creature, your opponent will decide which one applies (rule 419.9a). He'll likely choose his own, in which case your Debt of Loyalty won't apply, and you won't gain control of the creature. Because the Debt's shield is unused, it will apply if something tries to destroy the creature later in the same turn.

Q: With Mycosynth Lattice and Leonin Elder in play, does the Elder's controller get a life with every permanent played?

A: Yes. Continuous effects apply to permanents as they come into play; they don't come in and then change. With Mycosynth Lattice in play, any permanent coming into play will trigger the Elder, because the Elder's trigger condition is an artifact coming into play, not an artifact being played; the Elder's controller may gain 1 life.

Q: If you play a Parallax Wave, remove all the counters, and on that same stack Boomerang or Disenchant the Wave, do the removed cards stay removed?

A: No, the cards don't get removed at all. When the activated ability of the Wave resolves, the creature is only removed from the game if the Wave is still in play. If not, nothing happens. There are no tricks here similar to Faceless Butcher and friends.

Q: How does False Cure work? Does it work with life gained before the False Cure was played?

A: False Cure sets up an ability, with a duration of"until end of turn," that will trigger whenever a player gains life. It doesn't take into account life previously gained during the turn, because the event happened before the triggered ability existed.

Q: What happens if my opponent targets my Troll Ascetic with his AEther Spellbomb? Can I force him to choose a new target or what?

A: He's taken an illegal action, because the Ascetic isn't a legal target. He must back up to the last legal thing he did, which was before he activated the Spellbomb. He'll put the Spellbomb back into play, and untap the mana he used to activate it. In sanctioned play, he'd receive a warning for Procedural Error--Major.

Q: Does Dismantle move the counters from the target or give you new counters based on how many were on the targeted card?

A: Dismantle doesn't move counters, it simply puts the appropriate number of new counters on an artifact you control. Note that putting the counters on your artifact isn't targeted, nor is it optional.

Q: My opponent has a Platinum Angel. I have a Darksteel Reactor with 19 counters. During my upkeep, I put the 20th counter on it. Neither of us have any instant speed artifact removal. What happens?

A: The game's a draw due to an unbound loop. The Reactor's ability triggers, and when it resolves, nothing happens because of the Angel. The game state still matches the Reactor's trigger condition, so it will trigger again. And nothing will happen during resolution. If no one can break the loop, the game is a draw (rule 102.6).

Q: So, suppose I have a Mycosynth Lattice out and I'm playing an Extended dragon deck. I have two Urza's Incubators (with Dragons named, of course) out as well as a Dragonspeaker Shaman. For me, Dragons are costing 6 less. Does is pretty much mean I can drop, say, a Shivan Dragon for free? Or do I still pay the one red?

A: You'd still have to pay RR, which you could use any color of mana to pay. The cost of the spell is 4RR. All your reducers help pay up to 6 of the colorless component, leaving you with RR, because the Lattice doesn't actually affect the cost of the spell. Because of the Lattice, you can use any color mana to pay the two red.
