Rules Tip of the Day:"Play" is what we used to call"cast." If a spell or ability says you may"play something as though it were in your hand," it's not actually in your hand, and you can't use it like it is. You can't discard it, cycle, or reveal it. If a spell or ability says"if you play it from your hand," that means announcing it as a spell.
Grammar Tip of the Day: Capitalization of proper nouns and the pronoun"I" is not optional in English.
Getting Your Question Answered Tip of the Day: Put a title on your email. With all the spam out there, untitled emails go right to my Deleted folder.
Q: When you shuffle your deck, is it illegal to"mana weave?" It is okay as long as you shuffle your deck before it is presented, right? What if you get deck checked before you riffle shuffle?
A: Mana weaving in and of itself is not currently illegal. That being said, you must *thoroughly* shuffle your deck before presenting it to your opponent. You won't get deck checked until you actually present your deck to your opponent, so there's no danger there. If you mana weave and then don't sufficiently shuffle, your deck will be stacked, and you're cheating. If you mana weave and then pile or otherwise shuffle in a manner that returns your deck to an unrandomized configuration, you're cheating. You'll be subject to appropriate penalties--which will be disqualification.
Q: If I play an Entwined Tooth and Nail and get Phage, the Untouchable and put it into play, I don't lose, right?
A: Um...my mother told me if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
Q: If I block a Double Strike creature with a regenerator, like Drudge Skeletons, do I have to regenerate it twice?
A: No. A creature that regenerates is removed from combat, so it's no longer blocking during the normal Combat Damage Step.
Q: If Isochron Scepter's ability is activated to make a copy of an Instant, does this copy count as a card and does it go to the graveyard to Trigger any"When a card goes to the graveyard" abilities before ceasing to exist?
A: No. A copy of a spell ceases to exist when it leaves the stack (rule 420.5j). There's no physical card associated with the spell, so it can't trigger on anything that triggers on a card going somewhere.
Q: When Memnarch turns a creature into an artifact, does that creature become colorless or retain its original color?
A: It maintains its original color as well as types. Becoming an artifact doesn't turn it colorless.
Q: If my opponent has a Darksteel Gargoyle in play and I play Feeding Frenzy, will the Darksteel Gargoyle go to the graveyard?
A: Yes, if you have three or more Zombies. A creature being put into the graveyard due to 0 toughess is a State-Based Effect (rule 420.5), not a destroy effect.
Q: In one edition Anaba Bodyguard is a Minotaur, in another it is a Bodyguard. What gives? What type is it?
A: It's a Minotaur no matter which version you're playing because that's the current Oracle(tm) wording. It was changed when it came into Sixth Edition to put it in line with the current creature type templates. It never made sense that it wasn't a Minotaur.
Q: If I play with Reap and Sow with Entwine and my opponent sacrifices the targeted land in response, can I still search my libary for a land card or is the whole spell removed from the stack because it has no target anymore?
A: Reap and Sow has a single target. If that target's no longer there when the spell goes to resolve, it's countered (rule 413.2a), meaning it's removed from the stack and you don't follow any of its instructions.
Q: I have a question on Asmira, Holy Avenger. I know from the Top Ten rules questions that my tokens going to the graveyard will trigger her ability. What if I control an opponent's creature and sacrifice it? Will it go directly to my opponent's graveyard and so never sees my graveyard or will it trigger the ability first?
A: It will not trigger the ability because it will go directly to its owner's graveyard. It doesn't go to yours first (rule 217.4a). Asmira only triggers if a creature goes to your graveyard.
