Invasion: Yee Haw!
Yee Haw!
I am already having a blast with Invasion. Legends is probably my all time favorite expansion mainly due to, well, all the Legends in it. Invasion brings us a ton of them, and a ton of Gold cards to go along with them. Excited? Darn Skippy! I am also excited because I have recently passed the Level 1 Judge Test, and I will be assisting in the running of this weekend's PTQ Dallas to become officially certified.
Once again: Yee Haw!
With the release of Invasion, I am going to jump into the fray a little and try my hands at Type 2. When Masques first came out I was too poor to be able to build any kind of deck that was halfway decent, so I pretty much ignored it. Now however I have a few bucks so I was able to buy two boxes of Invasion - enough to give me a good start on getting some cards. I have decided to succumb to Wizards forced multi-color theme. My first Type 2 deck looks like this:
4x Blastoderm
2x Charging Troll
4x Kavu Titan
4x Llanowar Knight
4x Quirion Elves
4x Silt Crawler
22 Creatures
4x Armadillo Cloak
4x Snuff Out
4x Harrow
2x Wax/Wane
2x Aura Mutation
16 Spells
4x Elfhame Palace
10x Forest
6x Plains
2x Swamp
22 Land
I was always a fan of Snuff-O-Derm, so I decided to adapt it a little to the new set. The deck combines some of the new and old efficient green creatures for quick and constant beatdown. Perhaps the only creature really out of place is the Charging Troll at 2WG, but at 3/3 and with its ability to both regenerate and not tap to attack, it will be great in the mid-game if a creature standoff develops. Already it has proven to be a decent deck; it has an okay mana curve, but Harrow really helps that. I have not had much of a problem running only the two Swamps to support the Snuff Outs. Usually I cast Harrow on turn 3-4 (depending on if I have a Silt Crawler in hand) to get a Swamp. I am testing out Canopy Surge instead of Snuff Out for some added direct damage and to knock out most fliers.
Armadillo Cloak is good. Darn good.
All of the new Legends (especially the Dragon Legends) have forced me (kicking and screaming) into re-building a Legends deck. I know I posted a preliminary version last week, but I thought I would post it again in its more complete form after I have had some time to play with the new cards:
1x Crosis, the Purger
1x Treva, the Renewer
1x Dromar, the Banisher
1x Rith, the Awakener
1x Darigaaz, the Igniter
5x "New Fangled" Dragon Legends
1x Palladia-Mors
1x Chromium
1x Nicol Bolas
1x Vaevictis Asmadi
1x Arcades Sabboth
5x "Old School" Dragon Legends
1x Tsabo Tavoc
1x Hannah, Ship's Navigator
1x Capatain Sisay
1x Empress Galina
1x Sol'kanar, the Swamp King
5x Bad-Ass Legends
2x Crosis's Attendant
2x Treva's Attendant
2x Dromar's Attendant
2x Rith's Attendant
2x Darigaaz's Attendant
10x Golem Dudes
4x Cauldron Dance
2x Temporal Aperture
1x Crop Rotation
4x Utopia Tree
4x Fertile Ground
4x Land Grant
19x Other Stuff
4x Bayou
4x Taiga
3x Tropical Island
3x Savannah
1x Karakas
1x Undiscovered Paradise
16 Land
The land count is a little light until you look at the other sources of mana. The Utopia Trees, Land Grants, and Fertile Ground will help the high colored mana requirements of the deck. This is, of course, a fairly casual deck, but it is fun nonetheless. Cauldron Dance is just brutal! If it were not for its high casting cost I think it would see a lot of play, but 4BR is probably too much for a serious deck.
Just in case you are wondering, I went a sad 2-3-1 (plus a drop) at the Pre-Release. It was a good time though; I can't wait for the next one!
Thanks for reading.
