Rules Tip of the Day: Tapping an equipped creature, even to attack, will not tap the Equipment that's attached to it.

Q: Does Sleight of Mind's effect wear off at end of turn because it's an Instant?

A: No, it doesn't. The duration of an effect is spelled out in the ability (no matter what spell type it is). If there's no duration listed, it's permanent (meaning until the end of the game).

Q: How much mana would it cost for me to play Berserk when I have Emerald Medallion and Trinisphere is in play?

A: Three (2G). Trinisphere is always figured in last. You calculate the cost of the spell, and then if it's less than three, add enough to make it three. Emerald Medallion has no impact on Berserk's mana cost.

Q: When Mycosynth Lattice is in play, can you tap Mishra's Workshop for 3 mana that can be used as mana of any color?

A: Kind of but not so as it would make any difference. You can tap it for three mana which you can spend as though it were mana of any color, but still only use that mana to play artifacts.

Q: I was watching an Affinity vs. Tooth and Nail matchup at a recent tournament in which the Tooth and Nail player was at 0 life but had Leonin Abunas and Platinum Angel in play. The Affinity player had Myr Enforcer and 7 mana so he played Grab the Reins with Entwine. First, he took the Abunas, and then threw the Enforcer at the Angel. The Tooth player scooped up since the Angel died. I thought the Affinity player had cheated him. Wouldn't he have to declare the Angel as a target before he gained control of the Abunas, and since the Abunas is still controlled by the Tooth and Nail player, the Angel cannot be targeted?

A: I don't know if the Affinity player cheated or was simply in error, but you're definitely right otherwise. When he announced Grab the Reins, he was required to choose all the targets. At that time, the Angel was not a legal target, so he'd have to choose something else to target for the damage.

Q: How exactly does All Hallow's Eve work? When it was a sorcery, it was a one time effect. So, now that it's an enchantment, does it only trigger once and sacrifice itself, or does it trigger on each of my future upkeep steps? I would just like to know how it works as I would like to make a casual deck with my playset of them.

A: The ability only triggers if it has a time counter on it. That means once there are no more counters, it just sits there because its trigger condition can't be met (there's no sacrifice involved). The part about putting the creatures back into play is part of the triggered ability that removes the counters, so you would only put creatures back into play if it a) triggered and b) had no more counters.

Q: If I play Wurmskin Forger and put the"comes into play" ability on the stack choosing two targets, I know I have to place at least one counter on each creature choosen (meaning I can target a maximum of three creatures) but if one of my two targets is removed before the ability is resolved is one of the counters"lost" (as I would still be forced to"try" to place one on the now illegal target) or can I distribute all three counters on the one remaining target?

A: When a triggered ability goes on the stack, the controller of the ability makes any choices that would be required while playing an activated ability, following the same procedure (rule 410.4). That means you have to choose how you'll divide up the counters when you put the ability on the stack. If one of the targets is gone on resolution, the counter(s) destined for it are lost.

Q: Can Mistform Sliver's ability be used to make a Sliver into a Wall, so that Thicket Basilisk's ability won't affect it?

A: Yes, but you have to change it before it blocks or becomes blocked. The ability triggers on it blocking or being blocked by a non-Wall creature. If it's a non-Wall when it blocks, it will be destroyed even if later becomes a Wall.

Q: What happens if I charge Jeweled Amulet with the counter from Energy Chamber? What kind of mana do I get?

A: It depends. If you've never activated Jeweled Amulet's first ability, you won't get any mana, because no mana was used to put a charge counter on (rule 406.6). If you've previously activated the first ability, you'll get mana of the type that you used most recently to activate the first ability, even if that particular charge counter is no longer there.
