Rules Tip of the Day: You can float mana from step to step within a phase. This means you can put mana in your mana pool in the upkeep and use it in the draw step, or put it in your pool during the declaration of attacker step and later spend it in the combat damage step. But once a phase ends any mana left in your pool will cause mana burn.

Q: I have a Horobi, Death's Wail and a Soilshaper in play, and I play an Arcane/Spirit card, may I target an opponent's land in order to destroy it via Horobi's triggered ability?

A: That alone will not destroy your opponent's land. You would need to target this animated land with another spell or ability to destroy it with Horobi's ability. This is because Horobi's ability only triggers when a creature is targeted.

Q: Can you activate Mind's Eye for each draw of Memory Jar? And if so, do the cards go to your regular hand or your Jar created hand?

A: When Memory Jar's ability resolves, your opponent (and you) will draw seven cards. This will cause Mind's Eye to trigger seven times. When each of these triggered abilities resolves, you can pay one to draw a card. However when you draw due to the Mind's Eye, you will have the temporary hand provided by the Memory Jar, so unless you play all of these cards they will be discarded at the end of the next turn.

Q: Does Stasis Cocoon stop the Viridian Longbow from giving its ability to a creature?

A: No. When Viridian Longbow is attached to a creature its static ability grants the equipped creature the 'ping' ability, so Stasis Cocoon will not prevent the equipped creature from having that ability. However the Viridian Longbow's activated ability to equip creature will not be able to be played, so your opponent won't be able to move this equipment with the Equip ability.

Q: Does Overburden trigger when a creature token is put on play?

A: No. Overburden's original text read "creature card" which meant only creatures that were represented by card. That text has been cleaned up so it now reads "non-token creature", in the official Oracle text.

Q: I want to know the difference between activating a Circle of Protection to prevent one source of damage on the stack and something like Divine Presence. I guess my real question is that when combat damage goes on the stack, is it all one source? Will Divine Presence reduce combat damage from 3 4/4 creatures to a simple three damage or to nine damage?

A: While combat damage does go on the stack as a single item, it is still considered to be from each of the individual creatures involved in combat. In other words each creature is s separate source. So in this example each of the attacking 4/4 creatures will deal three points of damage each for a total of nine points of damage.

Q: I understand the difference between "at end of turn" triggers and "until end of turn" effects. Is it true that there are scenarios where players get priority to play something even after "until end of turn" effects end?

Suppose my opponent casts Abeyance during my upkeep. I respond to it by casting Contagion on his Festering Goblin. He responds with Giant Growth to save the creature. During the cleanup step, Giant Growth wears off, and the Goblin's toughness is less than 1 so it dies as a state-based effect. The Festering Goblin's trigger goes on the stack, and each player gets priority in turn before it resolves. Is this correct? Would I be able to play instants at this point - still during my turn - because the Abeyance effect ended at the same time that the Giant Growth did?

A: Your description is absolutely correct. Players can receive priority after a cleanup step in a turn under certain circumstances, like the one you presented where state-based effects did something and an ability has triggered after the cleanup step has begun. You are also correct that at this point you can play spells and abilities as the Abeyance effect has ended, even though it is still your turn.

Q: For Rain of Filth, are lands that are sacced then recurred from the graveyard straight to play able to sac for mana again?

A: No. Only lands that are in play when Rain of Filth resolves gain the ability to be sacrificed to put a single Black mana into your mana pool.

Q: The text on Frankie Peanuts states that they must abide by their answer until end of turn. What happens if they do not? Is there some sort of a penalty?

A: The text on the card does not specify any penalty for not abiding by that answer. However if they do not, then technically that player is cheating. As you can't use Unhinged cards in a sanctioned match the penalty guidelines don't really apply. It's pretty much up to you to come up with a suitable solution.

Q: Is there actually a MTG tournament rule that says your opponent must cut your deck? Also, if you could define a "legal" cut that would be great because I'm not aware if there is any such thing.  I ask simply because during my 3 years in the game, I have seen some of the weirdest "cuts" ever, for example, I had an opponent take the middlemost quarter of my deck and place it on top with the other 3/4 below.

A: There is a tournament rule that states that a player must present his deck to his opponent whenever he shuffles his deck, but that this opponent does not have to cut or shuffle it. This info is in section 21 of the DCI Universal tournament rules. The exception is at events that are REL 3 or higher. At those events a player must shuffle his opponents deck when it is presented to him. Examples of REL +3 events would be PTQs, Grand Prix and the Pro Tour.

And it is legal to take a portion of a portion of a player's deck, remove a middle section and place it on the top. This is referred to Scarne cut. It may look like cutting the deck multiple times, but it really only a single cut.
