Rules Tip of the Day: Only spells, abilities, and combat damage use the stack. Damage from spells or abilities doesn't use the stack (the original spell or ability did).
Q: If Cunning Bandit is flipped and I gain control of one creature without summon sickness, can I attack with this creature? What can I do for this creature attack?
A: No you will not be able to attack with any creature you 'steal' with Azamuki, Treachery Incarnate unless you find a way to give it Haste. The effect that causes you to gain control of this targeted creature does not give them Haste, so in order to attack with this creature you will have to find some way to give it haste.
Q: I have Pulse of the Forge in my hand and I play with less life than my opponent, so it goes to the graveyard. I also have Toshiro Umezawa in play, so next time I kill a creature controlled by an opponent I'll be able to play the Pulse. If I have less life than my opponent will it come back to my hand? Will it get removed anyway?
A: It will go back to your hand. Because Pulse of the Forge goes to its owner's hand as part of it resolution if the appropriate condition is met, it will never go to the graveyard and Toshiro Umezawa's replacement effect that removes it from the game will not be applied.
Q: My friend played Terashi Grasp on his own Cage of Hands, Splicing Glacial Ray to another creature, and returned the Cage of Hands to his hand in response. The creature obviously dies, and I said he would still gain the life, but he didn't. Is this correct?
A: No, that is not correct. Because this Arcane spell still has a legal target due to the spliced on Glacial Ray, the spell will still resolve and do as much as possible. The targeted enchantment may be an illegal target as it is no longer in play, but in that case the game will use last known information about Cage of Hands and this player should have gained three life.
Q: If you deal 10 damage to Darksteel Colossus and then give it -1/-1 reducing its power and toughness to 10/10, does it destroy the Darksteel Colossus?
A: No, the Colossus will not leave play in this example. It is a 10/10 creature with 10 points of damage on it. Normally this would cause a creature to become destroyed, but it is Indestructible so it will remain in play.
Q: Angel's Trumpet is in play. I play Reins of Power during my opponent's upkeep. I gain control of all their creatures until the end of turn, at which point the creatures get returned. Obviously, these creatures will not have attacked. My question is whether the creatures will be returned in time for them to get tapped by the Angel's Trumpet, thereby dealing damage to my opponent.
A: Angel's Trumpet's ability triggers at the beginning of the end of turn step. The effect from Rein's of Power lasts until the end of turn, which means the effect ends in the cleanup step, which is after the end of turn step. When Angel's Trumpet's triggered ability resolves, your opponent will still control 'your' creatures and Angel's Trumpet's ability will count the number of those creatures that did or did not attack. It will not count the creatures that were unable to attack due to the fact that you controlled them.
Q: If I have Krark's Thumb in play and I play Squee's Revenge, if I choose 3, and I flip 3 x 2 times because of Thumb. If I win all flips, will it be considered 6 flips for the purpose of drawing cards?
A: No, you will flip a coin six times, but Krark's Thumbs effect has you ignore half of those flips. So for the purpose of Squee's Revenge you only won three flips.
Q: I played Humble on my buddy's Avatar of Hope that had an Inviolability on it. Would the Humble also take away Inviolability ability or just the Avatar of Hope's Ability?
A: Inviolability does not give the damage prevention ability to the enchanted creature, so removing that creature's abilities will not prevent the damage to this creature from being prevented. This Avatar of Hope will lose its flying ability and the ability to block any number of creatures, but all damage to it will still be prevented.
Q: If we are inside a Shahrazad sub game and I have a Tormod's Crypt in play, can my opponent concede in response to my using it and nullify it's effect? Also, when an opponent concedes a sub game, does the stack empty before the game ends or does a Time Stop effect occur?
A: The subgame ends as soon as a player concedes. Any objects on the stack will be removed from the stack and not resolve. If it is a card it will be shuffled back into your deck in the main game. This is somewhat similar to Time Stop's effect, but there is not a cleanup step as this subgame ends.
