Rules Tip of the Day: Once all players have passed priority without doing anything, you resolve the top object on the stack, or if there is nothing on the stack, advance to the next step or phase.
Q: When Reweave resolves what happens to the revealed cards? Do they get discarded, or shuffled back into the library?
A: The cards that are revealed from this player's library never actually leave the library. This means that the cards which are revealed but not put into play will end up being shuffled into the library when Reweave finishes resolving.
Q: Player A has Wicked Akuba equipped with Hankyu; the Hankyu has one counter on and Player A has 5 untapped swamps. Player A taps the Akuba to ping Player B; in response to this Player B plays Glacial Ray on the Akuba. Can Player A then activate the Akuba’s ability to make Player B lose 5 life? (The Akuba had done no damage to Player B previously in that turn.)
A: No. Wicked Akuba's activated ability targets a player that has been dealt damage by the Akuba previously that turn. If the Akuba has not dealt damage to any player yet, then this ability cannot be played as a legal target can not be chosen. It does not matter that the Hankyu ability is on the stack and the Akuba is about to deal damage.
Q: If I have AEther Vial in play, and I have 12 counters on it, can I put Darksteel Colossus into play? If I have more than the counters required, does AEther Vial work backwards?
A: No, the creature card you put into play must have a converted mana cost exactly equal to the number of charge counters on the Æther Vial.
Q: If my opponent controls only one land and I Plow Under, do I have to target one of mine since it says to target two?
A: Yes, in order to play Plow Under you do have to target two separate lands. If your opponent only controls a single land, you will have to target a land you control in order to play this spell.
Q: What if you play Hecatomb and you have 0 creatures? In that case is Hecatomb just played for its mana cost? And what if you have like 2 or 3 creatures? Do you sacrifice those creatures and just forget about the other ones?
A; When Hecatomb comes into play its coming into play ability will trigger. When this triggered ability resolves you are given the option of sacrificing four creatures. You cannot choose to sacrifice any number of creatures other then four. If you do, then Hecatomb remains in play. If you do not, then the Hecatomb is sacrificed. Note that with the triggered ability on the stack, you can activate Hecatomb. That way you can (rather expensively) deal some damage and then sacrifice it and not lose any creatures.
Q: If Player A has Koskun Falls and one creature, and Player B has Opposition and one creature, can Player B tap Player A's creature in response to the Koskun Falls trigger, leaving Player A with no untapped creatures when the ability resolves and forcing the Falls to be sacrificed? Or is the cost - tapping a creature for the Falls - paid as the ability is put on the stack?
A: The cost of tapping an untapped creature with Koskun Falls' upkeep triggered ability is paid when this triggered ability resolves, not when it is put on the stack. If the only creature that the controller of Koskun Falls controls becomes tapped before this triggered ability resolves, then Koskun Falls will have to be sacrificed.
Q: If I play Evacuation and my opponent has Ambush Commander in play, would he have to return all his lands to his hand or would the Ambush Commander go into his hand first thus making all his lands just regular lands again.
A: All creatures in play when Evacuation resolves will be returned to their owner's hand at the same time. This means that your opponent's Forests (as the Commander only effects Forests) that are animated by the Ambush Commander will be returned to his hand at the same time as the Ambush Commander is.
Q: My opponent has Urza's Mine, Tower and Powerplant out, and the Mine gains a flood counter due to my Quicksilver Fountain. I understand that this land will only produce U, its type will change to " Land Island", and it's name will remain "Urza's Mine." However will the other lands "see" that there's a full Urza's set out, and so produce extra mana?
A: No. The Urza's lands check the subtype of other lands in play to see if there are lands with the appropriate subtypes. These abilities do not look at card names. If your opponent’s lone Urza's Mine in play has been changed into an Island then the other Urza's lands will only produce a single colorless mana each.
Prior to the introduction of subtypes for non-creature cards, it used to be that the Urza’s lands did care about the names of other lands in play. But it also used to be that effects that changed a land into a basic land type also changed that land’s name as well. So this interaction has the same end result as it always has, it just arrives there in a different way.
