Rules Tip of the Day: If a cumulative upkeep cost is not paid, then the permanent with cumulative upkeep is sacrificed.
Q: If my opponent plays Reap and Sow to fetch a land, and I use Fork or Twincast, can I use my copy to destroy the land they fetch, or does my copy resolve first and I must choose to fetch a land or destroy one already in play?
A: If your opponent only plays Reap and So without Entwine, then your copy will also be without Entwine and have the same mode. In other words, you will also have to search for a land and not destroy one, you are not given the option of choosing a different mode. (And your copy will resolve first, before the original spell.)
Q: If I play Cut the Earthly Bond targeting a creature enchanted by Cage of Hands (it is the only enchantment on it), and in response the controller of the Cage of Hands returns it to their hand, what happens to the targeted creature?
A: Because this creature is no longer enchanted when Cut the Earthly Bonds tries to resolve, Cut the Earthly Bonds will be countered on resolution and this creature will remain in play.
Q: Can I use something like Giant Growth to temporarily increase the power of a creature I control to over three, and then equip it with O-Naginata? And if so, once the Giant Growth wears off with the O-Naginata remain attached to this creature?
A: Yes. O-Naginata’s equip ability can be used to target creatures you control with any power, however when the equip ability resolves if this creatures power is not three or greater then the O-Naginata does not become attached to it. Once O-Naginata is attached to a creature all that matter is that its power remain above three, and the O-Naginata itself will help a little by giving this creatrure +3/+0.
Q: Can I play Curtain of Light and target an unblocked attacking creature I control after combat damage has gone on the stack in order to draw a card and still have it deal combat damage?
A; Yes, this creature is still attacking and unblocked at this point, so it is a legal target. Making this creature blocked after it has assigned combat will not prevent this damage from being dealt.
Q: Can you choose an opponent’s Troll Ascetic as a target of Reweave? Because you are really targeting the opponent and not the Troll.
A: Reweave does not target a player, it targets a permanent. The first line of text of Reweave is an instruction given to the controller of the targeted permanent; this does not mean that it targets that player. So no, you can not target a Troll Ascetic.
Q: Can Genju of the Realm only enchant a Legendary land?
A: No Genju of the Realm can enchant any land. The Genju of the Realm enchantment may be legendary, but this does not limit the types of lands that it can enchant.
Q: What happens when Ritual of Subdual and Hall of Gemstone are both in play? Does this depend on which one is played first?
A: No, the order that these two enchantments come into play does not matter. When a land it tapped for mana its controller gets to determine the order to apply these two replacement effects. Basically each player gets to choose each time they use a mana ability whether to get colorless mana or mana of the color that was chosen by the active player at the beginning of his last upkeep.
Q: How do Dream Halls and Mycosynth Lattice interact? Can you play any spell by discarding any card, or does Dream Halls' effect become meaningless?
A: Mycosynth Lattice effectively negates Dreams Halls. The reason is that Mycosynth Lattice makes all spells and cards not in play colorless, and Dream Halls effect only allows you to discard cards that share colors with spells that you play. If everything is colorless, then these cards and spells cannot share a color.
