RRRRRavnica! City of Drafting

Hi everyone! I'm Shawn Fullerton and this is my fourth or fifth article. I know you're asking why I didn't see any of your other articles?? Well I wrote them I swear! But probably Kuntson must have lost them.

In case you're wondering the other articles were about Kamagawa Block Construction, where I adopted My Snakes into the format..the problem wasn't not enough snakes but no answer to Pitching Needle! Snakes can't handle that card, they roll over and die to it and I can't afford any of my own to respond to it. Can Snakes even roll over?

But I had to change it a lot and I don't think it was ever the same. Here's my version that I would play at States--if Kamagawa was still legal--

My Snakes version 3.5

4 Card Captor Sakura--I make nicknames for all my cards! See if you can figure them out!

2 Cash Tribe Warrior (Kashi? Cashi? Cash money! (Except these guys are super cheap)

4 SSSSSseshiro (pretty self explainatory)

4 Psst! Whispering Hunters (center piece of the deck)

4 Say-What? Orochi Descendant (I never got him to flip yet but when I do!)

1 Fo Shizzy Caller of Autumn

Sachi, Hot Farmer's Daughter (I hope none of you are offended by this nickname If you are just think that maybe the farmer is hot and maybe the dauhgter is butt ugly)

1 So Sue Me, Son of sssssheshiro (these last 3 Legends aren't as good but I should at least play one of each)

2 Orochi Leafcaller (plus 2 in the side board for when I side in Ganja of the Realm)

3 Cash Tribe Elite (protection for Legends)

1 Anaconda (I have to include at least 1 Nth card or this is a CBK only deck)

2 Orochi Weight Watcher (eggs are fattening)

1 Umezawa's Jetta (should play more but I only have one! Can you believe it I only opened one jitte in two Betrayal Boxes?)

1 Masashi Tribe Birdstalker (Protection from flying!)

3 Boseiju, Who Shelters All (I also have a nickname for this card but ted knugent might get mad and this is a family sight)

4 Birds of Paradice (this card needs no nickname.... a few months ago I got four Revised Birds for $35 bucks! Their a little torn but I use KMC sleeves every time so you can barely tell)

1 Time of Need (Hunts out SSS5Sseshiro and sometimes one of the Coors Light™ Legends)

4 Flagmark of Konda (yeah yeah it's not the card's name, I got made fun of a lot for calling it but now the nickname stuck)

4 Disciple of the Vault (I hate playing cheesey cards but its my only defense against affinity because remember I can't afford Pitching needle.) Is castable with the Leafcallers.

I didn't start writing this article about My Snake deck! I almost didn't want to give out my secrets, now my friends might know whats coming. But this article is actually about the brand new magic set. I was starting to get bored with Kamagawa and Nth turned out to be all old cards so I was pretty exited when the prerelease.

Where are my manners? I should first start off by talking about what happened to me during last year. Enquiring minds want to know! Well Dave (the best player in my playgroup) (well former best player in my playgroup!) quit the game after fifteen years [he says] so he decided to sell me all his cards. OK not his good ones, those went on EBay so hes not where I got my Birds. He had a lot of old Italian Legends, next article maybe I'll write about my Glyph deck. (they tell me it's not legal in Type Two but there's the new format Renaissance and also they're always going to be legal in 1.x.

So Dave quit and I guess that makes me the de fatso Best Player in my Playgroup. Except for Josh, but, hes new so he doesn't count. And only nine! So it's been real good times lately on Magic. Its almost hard not to win! Unless Joshs' mom drives him over.

So we're at the prerelease--I'm not going to bore you with my Sealed Deck--, but I got to play some headed giant for the first time! And! OMG I got to draft!

So that was my first time but I got a 2nd chance at the other prerelease, two weeks later, and I had practiced a bit on Magic Online MTGO except at first there was a problem with my Mom s credit card and they don't even have Ravinca yet so I practiced with a Nth draft and a Kamagawa draft until I ran out of my Mom's packs, but I think I got much better for the 2nd prerelease. I got second place! Yeah I won the 1st round and lost the 2nd, so, now I want to pass on some of my knowledge about the format on to you.

<b>Ravinca City of Drafts</b>

Circus Dimir, Lobotomizer

I don't think I have to mention more about this card since it's worth like $30! I bought two right away and I'm going to probably make one or two decks with it. Also good for drafting.

Vinelasher Kud Zoo

WOW This guy gets HUGE FAST.

Except my opponents always have kill spells right away. GRR one game I got mana screwed and he stayed a 1/1 for five turns! I opened one at both prereleases though so I have to make a deck with him, but I wish it was a Snake.

Duel Lands

I'm not a big fan of these. They're SO SLOW. Josh told me though there's four good ones and four bad ones though so maybe I only saw the bad ones.

Angus Kos, Wojo Veteran

I know he looks bad at first, but when you do math he's actually a 5/3 or a 3/5 on offense or defense (respectively). Still I don't think I want to make a deck with him, since he's kind of boring. Pretty OK in drafts.

Autochtpron Worm

FIFTEEN MANA. For fifteen mana I can get a Lotus Mox and play infy worms. Hehe, I just got a new deck idea.

Bird of Paradice

Ok I don't know why I'm mentioning this card but I was kind of mad to open it since I had just bought those revised Burds so I sold it to Dave so he can sell it on ebay. I figured its worthless than the old birds so I did it for $7, but he says if he gets at least $10 dollars on ebay I get another dollar. The art is good though.

Zombie Vulture

I didnt play it in my deck because it only has a 3/3 for 5 and that's worse then Hill Giants. Josh says I should have played it though.

Sunforcer

I think I might use him in Snakes 3.6 as a replacement for Jittes. It's better than jitte with no counters (and not a legend). Oh and I played it in my draft and it made Angus a 9/3 on offense! (3/9 on defense but I never blocked with him)

Hunted Creature

Ok I only opened one (the black one) but I saw other peoples and I figured there are four (one for each guild.) Too big a drawback except maybe for the Green one because Green is the token color.

Well those were mostly the Rares I opened or drafted (someone actually passed me a rare!) but I still want to talk more about Drafting.

Dimir

Easily my worst favorite guild except for Circus Circus, the lobotomizer. Too weak creatures and half of them are Walls with defending.

Gregori

If you know me by now you probably think this Gregori is my favorite. Almost! I like the +1/+1 tokens but I don't like all the Zombies. Drudge seems ok but it's card disadvantage which Josh always tells me is a bad thing.

Boors

White and Red is my worst color combination so you might think I hate this Guilt. Not so! It's the fastest one and I like Speed (but not Speed two). Angus is the leader of the pack.

S

I won't even try to spell it and I can't even pronounce it yet but ut this is the Best Guild. It makes all the Tokens and it has the fattest creatures. A plus!

I hope you learned more about Ravincal drafts. Right now all I want to do is draft so maybe I won't have time to build a States deck, but if I do I'll be sure to write about it (AFTER it wins States!!!)
