Tuesday, November 16th – Thanks to Master’s Edition we now get to “preview” some of Magic’s All Stars! Check out the new-to-MTGO Regrowth and Time Vault!

Yes, it’s that time again – Previews! My favorite time in Magic, and thanks to Master’s Edition we now get to “preview” some of Magic’s All Stars! Check out the new-to-MTGO Regrowth and Time Vault!

Regrowth

So here we have Regrowth, the first of our two heavy hitters. Regrowth is full of possibilities in Legacy and restricted in Vintage because it does the craziest thing: It gets back anything. Note that Regrowth has recently been seen again in the form of Nature’s Spiral, but of course there’s a big difference: This one only gets back permanents, so cards like Dark Ritual or Rite of Flame can’t be picked back up, neither can cards like Ancestral Recall or Time Walk.

Regrowth is so renowned we have the now-deemed “Regrowth effects” in almost every set, like the mashup of Nature’s Spiral and Call to Mind. This effect is too powerful to put on a spell that costs only two mana, and the one that gets back spells costs three. But of course there’s always Eternal Witness who is another hallmark Magic card, and again is so powerful because “any” card in your graveyard is always better than a specific type or types of cards.

With this guy being rare you can bet all those EDH’ers and Vintage players will want their copy. But what’s bigger than Regrowth?

Time Vault

Why it’s Time Vault of course! This bad boy is just ripe for the Vintage players itching for it to take a place in the metagame.

Much like Patrick Chapin noted in the
first Chapin & Sperling Show

, while Mishra’s Workshop makes a deck, Time Vault does not. But what does it do?

It provides infinite turns with cards like Voltaic Key and Tezzeret the Seeker! An assortment of this combo is seen all over Vintage. Because of Voltaic Key’s fantastic interaction with other cards like Mana Vault and Grim Monolith, it does more in Vintage decks that just untap Time Vault, but can insta-win if it’s on the table.

Time Vault will be a much-sought after rare for the Vintage players and can you imagine a foil? For the first time ever, of course, Time Vault will also be foiled! Regrowth already has a Judge Foil, but Time Vault? Oh snap son! I’m not only taking turns, I’m taking shiny rare turns that make me feel all giggly inside.

Time Vault is a welcome edition to the online card pool and should slowly grow in value as the cards in sets like these always do.

Based on some of the sickness already spoiled: Sinkhole, Library of Alexandria, and Mana Vault, you can be assured this is a set you won’t regret drafting. Or raredrafting (c’mon, you know you do it with every Master’s Edition set).

I for one look forward to ripping my Regrowths and Time Vaults in draft, and I’m curious if they give us something as old school as Twiddle to allow us to draft the combo. I know those Wizards boys love assembling those crazy and unexpected combos like the rest of us.

So be ready: On January 10th Master’s Edition goes on sale for a limited time, and if you’ve ever had to scrounge for Force of Will or Bayou online, you know how important it is to get your playables out of these sets.

Until next time Magic players, this is Evan Erwin. Tapping the cards…so you don’t have to!
