As we watch the first Invitational of they year play out we're announcing some changes to our Open Series program specifically the Player's Club. Upon careful review of the current system we have decided to alter the benefits of Levels 4 and 5. Awarding byes at these levels has proven much stronger than initially calculated and the difficulty of these levels does not accurately reflect that strength. Byes have created an effect that stymies the kind of competition we would prefer to encourage in our tournaments.
This weekend marks the last Open Weekend at which these levels will award byes. Beginning with Denver Level 4 will award the benefits of Levels 1-3 a $25 appearance fee at each Open Weekend and a single bye at the Charlotte Invitational. Level 5 will award the benefits of Levels 1-3 a $50 appearance fee and two Invitational byes in Charlotte.
Star City Games recognizes that players make their travel decisions in advance and expect predictability from the Open Series and the Player's Club. With that in mind we will be amending our own policy to only allow the change of benefits following an Invitational weekend. Your current benefits including the Level 4 and 5 changes previously discussed are guaranteed to remain identical for the remainder of 2011 with Charlotte concluding the season. Anyone who made level 8 this year will receive this year's level 8 benefits both this year (2011) and next year (2012).
We weren't eager to enact midseason changes to the Player's Club but the current system's imbalance warranted action. Looking forward the 2012 Player's Club will be expanding to offer exciting new benefits after Charlotte. A couple teasers are in order:
First off we will be releasing the 2012 Player's Club benefits during the next Indianapolis Open Weekend on October 1st the same weekend that Innistrad releases. You should also know now that next year's Player's Club will include benefits directly tied to the number of points you have accrued over the 2011 season—and these benefits will not be capped. The more points you earn this year the more bonuses you will get in 2012 so grab every single point you get a chance at!
Finally we'd like to take a moment to thank all of you for being part of SCGLive's first season. Season 2 begins next weekend at the Denver Open Weekend and we have some awesome changes in store. The SCGLive family is growing larger! Charlotte gave you a taste of Gerard Fabiano who will be returning as a regular commentator. Joining Gerard in Season 2 we'll have American pros Ari Lax and Zack Hall renowned deckbuilder and theorist Mike Flores Brian “Dragonmaster” Kibler Player of the Year Brad Nelson and “the Innovator” himself—Patrick Chapin! Patrick will kick off the season in Denver alongside Joey Pasco and everyone is very excited for his debut.
That's all we've got for you right now—happy battling everyone!
