This week I will be looking at U/B Control, which Shaheen Soorani and Ali Aintrazi have been doing well with lately.
Warning: I do not sound excited to be playing this deck, because I am not. U/B is an exceptionally easy deck to play, as far as control decks go. Especially this version with Solemns and lots of win conditions, you just discard a few of their cards, counter one, Solemn into fatty. I doubt there are more than four decisions to make in each game you play. This does not bode well for me, as I would like to use my play skill to leverage extra percentage, which this deck does not allow me to do.
Not to say the deck requires no skill, but the skill mostly comes from building the maindeck properly and sideboarding correctly, as opposed to in-game decisions. This means it is a terrific deck for those without a lot of time to invest in learning to play RUGPOD or Caw-Blade.
Round 1 against U/B Control
Round 2 against U/B Control
Round 3 against U/R Splinter Twin
Round 4 against Mono Red burn
In conclusion, I would want perhaps Vampire Nighthawk for the mirror (Bloodghast seems sweet) and Mono Red, as well as some Sorin's Thirst over Disfigure in the board. I also suspect basic Island is superior to Mystifying Maze. I would also want another Go for the Throat over a Doom Blade and perhaps Ratchet Bomb in the sideboard to help deal with Shrine of Burning Rage.
No one can fight the tide forever.
