This is actually one of my favorite draft decks in recent memory. The draft was most certainly an interesting one. The first pick once again came down to color preference, and since I hadn't played with White cards in a while I figured I'd give them a run. With the second pick my thinking was that there's a decent chance the guy behind me takes Amrou Scout if I take Stuffy Doll here, and getting White in pack 2 is very important since that's where it's at it's best. The third pick is where thing's get really interesting. No matter what I take here I'm not seeing any Red in Planar Chaos, so I decided to stick with the White plan and hope the person who takes Desolation Giant doesn't get into White too heavily. From there I was White, but finding a second color proved difficult until I got the late Blightspeakers. I played eighteen lands since I had four rebel searchers and enough rebels that I'd be hard to beat once I started searching.
Round 1 I played John Pelcak. In the first game he suspended Halberdier turn 1 and Deepwalker turn 2. Things looked good for a while, but he had just enough removal to keep getting his guys through, while I drew too many lands without a rebel searcher to compete. Game 2 I once again had lots of land, but this time I had a Blightspeaker online before he could get any pressure on me. I got another Blightspeaker first for protection, then the steady stream of rebels from my deck took care of business. Game 3 we both had pretty good draws. He had a morph on turn 3, and Coal Stoker and another morph on turn 4, while I had Blightspeaker and Aven Riftwatcher on turns 2 and 3. When he attacked on turn 4 I searched up a Blade of the Sixth Pride to block his Coal Stoker and blocked a morph with the Riftwatcher. He unmorphed Fathom Seer with damage on the stack and Thunderblade Charged my Blightspeaker after combat. From there I had to play very defensively so as to not lose to the Charge, and the lands my deck kept delivering weren't helping. It did look like I was going to get back in the game at one point when he Second Winded my Riftwatcher, which allowed him to attack with his Aven Augur, so I Momentary Blinked the Riftwatcher, but he had Venser's Diffusion to save his Augur. Eventually my Riftwatcher faded away and I still hadn't drawn any action so his Thunderblade Charge first killed my ground creatures then me. He also played Pyrohemia, but by that time I'd already lost.
Until tomorrow,
Rich
