I think Lightning Axe is slightly better than Psionic Blast, but the Blast was foil so I had to take it. With the second pick Ephemeron, I was very glad I did. From there I got into Black, which was wide open, and ended up with a pretty good deck. I like to get more madness outlets so that I can play Grave Scrabblers in my Blue/Black decks, but they just weren't there. I think that Piracy Charm is generally better than Aquamorph Entity, but this deck just wanted a dude it could play in the midgame. The other reason I didn't take Piracy Charm was that I thought some Midnight Charms were going to come back, and they do essentially the same thing
Round 1 I played against a good Blue/White deck. Game one he had a quick start and I was without Blue mana for most of the game so I just died when he played and flashbacked Marshalling Cry on consecutive turns when he already had a significant board advantage. Game 2 I again fell behind early, but I was able to get my rebel engine going, as well as using Shaper Parasite to hold him off while my Errant Ephemeron went to work. Game 3 he had another good curve, but I had Shaper Parasite to kill his Zealot il-Vec which was keeping my Blightspeaker and Augur of Skulls in hand. Once my Ephemeron came in I started to take over. He had Leaden Fists for the Ephemeron, but I was able to stall his attack and ping him to death with the Blightspeakers, with a Psionic Blast to finish him off.
Round 2 I played against another Blue/White deck, this time splashing Red for some removal. Game 1 he got me pretty good with Even the Odds on my Augur of Skulls, when I stupidly played a spell before combat, but it wouldn't have been relevant as he cast Crovax a couple turns later, and I had no answers. Game 2 I got ahead early, but he had Even the Odds again to slow me down. The game bogged down into a state of me attacking each turn with Twisted Abomination, while he used things like Reality Strobe, Whitemane Lions, and chump blockers to hold it off, while my Gorgon Recluse held him off. Eventually he ran out of resources and the Abomination got him. Game 3 he mulliganed on the play, and drew from the bad half of his deck, so he had very little action, while I had Spiketail Drakeling and Gorgon Recluse attacking into nothing, with two removal spells and a counter to back them up when he conceded.
I split the finals in order to draft again.
