Wisconsin State Championships Wrap-up

196 attendees made this the largest States in Wisconsin history, and a couple of the past champions were on hand. Defending title-holder Adrian Sullivan had a rough day, while Mike Hron, Wisconsin's only two-time winner (2000, 2001) was eliminated near the end of the day. Rob Castro, the first state champ (1997) was playing as usual, but could not return to old form with his mono-black control deck. Runner-up in 1999, Bob Maher, Jr. played but was eliminated from contention after his fifth-round concession to Andy"Box" Klein because, as Maher explained it, he"couldn't use the prize.

I was able to get in several Rochester drafts with Scourge last week in order to try and help some friends who are going to Nationals. My experience with these cards isn't overwhelming, but about eight drafts or so have given me some idea which cards have merit, and which cards some people are severely misvaluing.

We play casual, and we have a great time. But there are cards that just aren't allowed on our table, though - and while a list will never be compiled, these are some of the most"ungentlemanly" cards in multiplayer. Even die-hards hate some of these cards - and when the goal is to have fun, spoiling it for everyone shouldn't be on your agenda. There is absolutely nothing more important than having fun when you play Magic, especially multiplayer, and avoiding the use of these cards will make your games that much more enjoyable.

I hate Constructed. Even if 5-Color has gotten too competitive for you, maybe you'd be happier running this. We play Magic for hours and have a total blast. Playing one-on-one is fine, but"the more, the merrier" absolutely applies to Magic. Getting four or five guys together and just throwing around fun spells is what Magic is about.
