Rules Tip of the Day: Abilities that trigger during the announcement of a spell or ability will wait to go on the stack until the announcement is completed. The triggered ability will then go on the stack on top of the played spell or ability.
Q: If I have two Counterbalance cards in play, when my opponent plays a spell, may I reveal the top two cards of my library, or only one?
A: You'll reveal just one card. However, you can do it twice. Here's how it works: when your opponent plays a spell, the ability of each Counterbalance will trigger independently and go on the stack separately. When the first ability resolves, you will reveal the top card of your library. Then, when the second resolves you will end up revealing the same card, unless some effect has changed what the top card of your library is since the previous Counterbalance ability resolved.
Q: I have a Juniper Order Ranger in play with no counters. If I play a Cytoplast Root-Kin, can I put the Root-kin's comes-into-play trigger on the stack, and then put the Ranger's CIP on the stack, so that the Ranger gets a +1/+1 token for a creature coming into play and then gets a +1/+1 counter from the Root-Kin's CIP ability?
A: Yes, that works. As you are the controller of these two triggered abilities, you can determine the order that they go on the stack. Cytoplast Root-Kin's ability only cares that a creature you control has a counter when it resolves; it does not matter which creatures you control have counters when the ability triggers. So if you put these two abilities on the stack as you describe, then the Ranger will end up getting two counters.
Q: With Martyr of Sands (or any of the Coldsnap Martyrs), does "revealed white cards" include white land cards, or only spells?
A: Lands are inherently colorless; they are not the color of the mana they produce. So you cannot reveal a Plains when resolving the ability of Martyr of Sands.
Q: If you attack with Kodama of the North Tree and your opponent doesn't block it, can you Ninjutsu in Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni, since the Kodama can't be targeted by spells or abilities?
A: Yes, you can. The Ninjutsu ability does not target the unblocked attacking creature that you return to your hand. So you can return an untargetable creature, like Kodama of the North Tree, to your hand.
Q: Will Tangle Asp's ability work when you use Valor Made Real on it? Can I kill all attacking creatures?
A: Yes, Tangle Asp's ability will trigger once for each creature it blocked. Assuming that it can block all attacking creatures—none of them have flying or some other evasion ability—then all attacking creature will end up being destroyed in the end of combat step.
Q: If my friend were to use Rude Awakening to make his Forests into 2/2 creatures, would Forest become a creature type, allowing them to be powered up by Tribal Unity?
A: No. These animated lands will not have any creature types. Forest is a land subtype, it is not a creature subtype.
Q: In a recent game, I had a Will-o'-the-Wisp equipped with Pariah's Shield. My opponent attacked me with several creatures. I did not block with the Wisp, and I used its regeneration ability. My opponent was insisting that I would have to regenerate the Wisp for each creature that could have killed it. Is he right?
A: No, your opponent is incorrect. Barring first strike damage, all combat damage is dealt at the same time. When it is, all the damage will be redirected and dealt to the equipped Will-o'-the-Wisp at the same time. In order for the Wisp to survive, you'll only need to activate its regeneration ability once.
