Rules Tip of the Day: No one receives priority during the announcement of a spell or ability, so no one can ever respond to the payment of a cost. You can respond to the spell or ability being played, but by the time you can, all costs of this spell or ability will have been paid.
Q: Are Suspended spells placed face up in the removed from game zone?
A: Yes, they are face up. Unless specified, any card that is in the removed from game zone is face up.
Q: Does Ghostflame Sliver affect Slivers in your hand, allowing you to pay any color for their costs?
A: No. Unless specified, static abilities of permanents are only applied to permanents in play. Ghostflame Sliver's ability only makes Slivers in play colorless. This ability does not change what you have to pay to play other Sliver spells.
Q: Regarding Pull from Eternity, can I find any card from outside the game?
A: You can only target a card that has been removed from the game by some effect. You cannot target a card that did not begin the game in someone's deck, unless it is brought into the game by a Wish or the Research side of Research / Development.
Q: I was wondering if Fungus Sliver's ability gives a +1/+1 counter for each point of damage dealt, or just when a Sliver takes any sum of damage?
A: With Fungus Sliver in play a Sliver will only receive one +1/+1 counter when it is dealt damage, regardless of the amount of damage dealt to it. Keep in mind that this ability will only have a useful effect as long as the damage that is dealt to the Sliver is not lethal.
Q: Does the controller of Nightshade Assassin's ability reveal cards when the ability is put onto the stack, or only when the ability is resolved?
A: These cards are reveled when the ability resolves. However, keep in mind that the target is chosen when the ability goes on the stack.
Q: If I Lighting Helix my Stuffy Doll with a Furnace of Rath in play, will it deal six damage to the Doll and then twelve damage to my opponent?
A: Yes. When your Lightning Helix resolves, six points of damage will be dealt to the Stuffy Doll. This will cause Stuffy Doll's ability to trigger. Then, when the triggered ability resolves, it will deal twelve, due to the Furnace of Rath.
Q: Can any Suspended spell be countered by Trickbind?
A: Effectively, yes. When the last time counter is removed from a Suspended card, a triggered ability goes on the stack. When this triggered ability resolves, the controller of this object can play the card. However, if you counter the triggered ability, the spell cannot be played, and it will remain removed from the game.
Q: I've a Fervor in play and I play Ovinomancer. Can I—in response to the comes-into-play ability of Ovinomancer—activate the ability of Ovinomancer, return it to my hand, and destroy a creature without returning three lands to my hand?
A: Yes, that works. When the Ovinomancer's comes-into-play ability resolves, you can choose to not return three lands to your hand, and you also won't be able to sacrifice the Ovinomancer, as it is no longer in play.
Q: My Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is in play, and a my opponent has a suspended Ancestral Vision. During the upkeep where the Vision will lose its last counter, can it be played?
A: No, he cannot play it, because Teferi's ability prevents him from playing any spell at any time other than during the main phase of his turn, when the stack is empty.
Q: If I cast Replenish, and put three Enfeeblements on an Akroma, Angel of Wrath. does she die? Do state-based effects check in the order written, when multiple SBE's are being checked?
A: You cannot do that. Enfeeblement cannot be attached to Akroma at all. When Replenish resolves, you can put these Enfeeblements into play, but you cannot choose to have them become attached to Akroma, as Akroma has protection from black. If there is not some other creature for these auras to attach to, then they will remain in the graveyard.
Q: Can you Stifle "As this creature comes into play..." abilities? For example, Ward Sliver's "As Ward Sliver comes into play, choose a color?"
A: No, abilities like these are not triggered abilities. This is an example of a static ability that generates a replacement effect. This replacement effect alters what happens when the Sliver enters play.
