Rules Tip of the Day: There is no such thing as 'infinity' in Magic. If an unbounded, controllable loop is created, then the controller of the loop needs to choose a number and the players will repeat the loop that many times.
Q: If I play Quicken during my opponent's turn, can I Suspend Rift Bolt, or do I have to pay its mana cost if I want to play it?
A: Yes, you can Suspend this Rift Bolt. In fact, you can Suspend as many Rift Bolts—or other sorceries with Suspend—as you can pay the Suspend costs for. This is because the Suspend ability allows you to Suspend a card anytime you could otherwise play that card. Quicken gives you the ability to play a sorcery as though it had Flash until you play a sorcery, or until the turn ends. When you Suspend a sorcery you are not playing it, so Suspending a sorcery does not cause Quicken's effect to end.
Q: Mishra, Artificer Prodigy allows you to search your hand, library, and graveyard for an artifact with the same name as the artifact spell you just played. With Mycrosynth Lattice in play, would that allow me to search for a card with the same name? Example: I play Disciple of the Vault both of those two cards in play. Could I search for another Disciple of the Vault? Or is it only an artifact once it is in play?
A: No, that does not work. Mishra, Artifact Prodigy's ability triggers when you play an artifact spell, but Mycosynthe Lattice does not make spells on the stack into artifact spells. It makes them colorless, but this does not mean that they are artifact spells. In the example given, the Disciple of the Vault spell on the stack is a colorless creature spell. When the Disciple spell resolves, the Disciple will enter play and will be an artifact due to the Mycosynth Lattice, but it was not an artifact spell.
Q: Does the player playing Void have to immediately target the player, or does this happen only after the resolution? I know that normally any targets must be immediately declared, but I'm confused by "then target player ..." which appears to happen only after the resolution (after the number had been chosen).
A: You choose all targets of a spell or ability when the spell or ability is played and put on the stack. The phrase "then target player..."does appear a bit later in the text of Void, but this target is still chosen when the spell is played.
Q: If I have Vesuvan Shapeshifter in play, and I use its Morph ability to copy a Brine Elemental that is currently face-up, does my opponent skip his or her next untap phase?
A: Yes. When Vesuvan Shapeshifter is turned face up and copies any card with a Morph triggered ability, this ability of the Vesuvan Shapeshifter will trigger. In this example your opponent will end up skipping his next untap step. If the Brine Elemental is face-down, it doesn't have the "When this is turned face up..." ability, so Vesuvan Shapeshifter will just be a 2/2.
Q: When you discard (and play) a Madness card as part of a Spellshaper's ability, which goes on the stack first? The Madness card or the Spellshaper's ability?
A: When you play a spell or ability, it goes on the stack as the first part of the announcement. In this example, you are playing a Spellshaper ability and discarding a Madness card, which will cause the Madness ability to trigger during the announcement of the Spellshaper ability. So this Madness triggered ability will go on the stack on top of the Spellshaper activated ability
Q: Can a player use Salvaging Station to get Lotus Bloom in play?
A: Yes, that works. Salvaging Station puts the targeted artifact into play; this does not count as playing that spell. You can put Lotus Bloom directly into play this way.
Q: How does Clone interact with Stuffy Doll? If you Clone a Stuffy Doll, do you get to choose a player for the damage from the Cloned Stuffy Doll?
A: Yes, when this Clone comes into play you will be able to make the same choices you would make when the original comes into play.
Q: Does Thrumming Stone give Storm copies Ripple 4? Is Ripple repeated for each occurrence of the ability?
A: No. The Ripple ability only triggers when a spell is played. The Storm triggered ability puts copies of the Storm spell on the stack without playing them. So the Ripple ability of these copies will not trigger.
Q: What happens if there are multiple copies of Confusion in the Ranks in play? For example; Player 1 has a Birds of Paradise, Player 2 has two Confusion in the Ranks and this player casts a Llanowar Elf. Would the Birds go to player 1 and then go back to player 2 again after the second ability resolved?
A: No. When the Llanowar Elf comes into play, the abilities of each Confusion in the Ranks will trigger. As there is only one creature controlled by Player 1 to target, both of these abilities will end up targeting it. When the first of these abilities resolves, control of these two creatures will be exchanged. Then when the second ability resolves, the targeted creature (the Birds of Paradise) will not longer be controlled by another player, so this Confusion in the Ranks ability will be countered on resolution due to an illegal target.
