Rules Tip of the Day: Combat damage is only damage done as a direct result of creatures attacking and blocking. Creature abilities used during the Combat Phase do not result in combat damage.
Regionals Card Tip of the Day: The converted mana cost of Chalice of the Void is 0 while it's in play, regardless of the number of counters on it.
Q: I was wondering if there was any meaningful synergy between Seedtime and Blind Seer's ability. If a player plays a red spell can I make the spell blue and then play Seedtime to get an extra turn?
A: Seedtime looks for a blue spell having been played by an opponent, it doesn't look for a blue spell having been on the stack. For Seedtime to have its effect, the spell must have been blue at the moment it was played.
Q: I have True Believer out and then I play Jinxed Choker. Does the Choker go to my opponent at end of turn and then never come back to me?
A: If you can't be the target of spells or abilities, Jinxed Choker can't come back to you because the triggered ability is targeted. You know that by use of the word"target."
Q: If I have Isochron Scepter and Arcane Laboratory in play, will activating the Scepter count as a played spell against the Arcane Labatory?
A: Activating the Scepter won't, but the spell you copy and play as a result of the Scepter's ability will count for Arcane Laboratory because you're actually playing the spell.
Q: I have a Spawning Pit with one counter and an Arcbound Bruiser in play. Can I sacrifice the Bruiser to create a Spawn token then place the Modular tokens on the Spawn?
A: No. As soon as you sacrifice the Bruiser to activate the Spawning Pit's first ability, the Modular trigger goes on the stack. There's no creature yet in play, so the counters have nowhere to go. You have to wait for the Pit's first ability to resolve in order to activate the second one.
Q: If I change the power of a Spikeshot Goblin after it's been activated, but prior to it's ability resolving, does it change the amount of damage it does, or does it use the power at the time the goblin was activated?
A: It's the power of the Spikeshot on resolution that's important. The amount of damage isn't"locked in" on announcement.
Q: If I have Darksteel Forge and Platnium Angel in play, can my opponent Lava Burst it? My freind declares that Indestructible is an effect that prevents damage, and lava burst negates that effect.
A: Your friend is wrong. Indestructible does not prevent damage, it just keeps what would be lethal damage from destroying a creature. Your opponent can Lava Burst your Platinum Angel, but it will stay alive because of the Darksteel Forge.
Q: I have Disciple of the Vault in play and my opponent has March of the Machines. If I play an artifact land, does it going to the graveyard trigger the Disciple's ability? The judge at our local store ruled that it does not trigger that ability. I believe that it does.
A: You are correct. It's an artifact when it goes to the 'yard, so it triggers Disciple of the Vault.
Q: I have Arcbound Ravager and Glimmervoid in play. I'm playing against Astral Slide, and he Slides out my Ravager at end of turn. Do I lose my Glimmervoid?
A: No. Glimmervoid's trigger is conditional. If it's not met at end of turn, then it doesn't go on the stack (rule 410.8). Because end of turn triggers go on the stack before players get priority, the chance for the trigger has already passed before he gets priority to Slide out your Ravager. The Ravager is still in play when the Glimmervoid's ability would trigger, so you don't lose it.
