Rules Tip of the Day: If an ability triggers in the untap step of a turn, the ability will wait around until the upkeep step before it goes on the stack and eventually resolves.
Q: If I use Boseiju, Who Shelters All, to play Condescend, can my opponent still pay the mana to nullify the effect of Condescend, or does the Boseiju override and make it so he can't do anything about it?
A: When your opponent pays mana during the resolution of your Condescend so his targeted spell is not countered, he is not countering the Condescend. Using the man from Boseiju to pay for this Condescend won't prevent your opponent from paying mana or make sure that the targeted spell becomes countered.
Q: When you control one of the Champions of Kamigawa creatures that has a flip ability, such as Budoka Gardener, can you choose not to flip it in the case that if you do you would put a second copy of a legendary creature into play?
A: No, flipping these creatures is not an option. When their triggered abilities resolve or their activated abilities resolve and the appropriate condition is met they will flip automatically, this is not a choice
Q: With the Deceivers from Champions of Kamigawa, what constitutes "playing" the ability? Is it the resolution or the activation? For example: I control Feral Deceiver. I pay 2, reveal a land, +2/+2 and trample goes on the stack. My opponent plays Shock. Can Feral Deceiver's controller activate and put +2/+2 on the stack to save the Deceiver with only one +2/+2 resolving because of the "play this ability only once each turn" restriction?
A: Playing the ability means choosing to use the ability and paying for it. You can not activate the ability and then before the ability resolves activate it again. Additionally, you seem to be a bit confused as to how the Deceiver's ability works. When you play the ability you pay 2 mana, that's it. Revealing the top card of your library is not part of the cost. When this ability resolves you reveal the top card of your library and if it is a land then the Deceiver gets the appropriate bonus. The bonus granted by this ability does not go back on the stack.
Q: What happens to the discard ability of Tireless Tribe after Strange Inversion has resolved targeting it. Is the +0 power and +4 toughness also switched?
A: Strange Inversion only switches the power and toughness of the targeted creature when the Strange Inversion resolves. It does not affect abilities of that creature or any other spells and abilities that would further alter its power and toughness of this creature later. For example, if you activated the Tribe's ability once and let it resolve then Tribe would be a 1/5 creature. After a Strange Inversion resolves it will then be a 5/1 creature. If you used the Tribe's ability again, it would become a 5/5 creature and not a 9/1 creature.
Q: When Dosan, the Falling Leaf is in play, can my opponent tap Isochron Scepter on my turn?
A: While your opponent can play the Scepter's ability, Dosan will prevent him from effectively utilizing this ability during your turn. He can still play the ability and make a copy of a card, by Dosan's ability will prevent him playing this copy as Dosan prevents all other players from playing any spells during your turn.
Q: With Spellbook in play can I choose to discard down to 7 or any number above that at the end of my turn if I have more than 7 cards in my hand?
A: No, you only discard cards in your cleanup step if you have more cards in hand then your maximum hand size. With Spellbook in play you have no maximum hand size, so there is nothing to discard.
Q: Is the card revealed through Vexing Arcanix considered as a drawn card? When I played Booby Trap, I named Llanowar Elves. After a while, I played a Vexing Arcanix. I have two scenarios: 1) I used Vexing Arcanix and then my opponent named Forest. The revealed card was "Llanowar Elves". How many damage did he get? Can I sacrifice the Booby Trap for 10 damage even though the card went to the graveyard? If he took only 2 damage from the ability of the Vexing Arcanix, does my Booby Trap remain in play? 2) I used Vexing Arcanix and then my opponent named Llanowar Elves. The revealed card was Llanowar Elves. Can I sacrifice Booby Trap to deal 10 damage to him?
A: The top card revealed by Vexing Arcanix is not drawn. The effect tells you to put it into your hand without drawing it. In both situations your opponent will not receive any damage from the Booby Trap, however he will receive 2 from the Vexing Arcanix in the first situation. And no, you can't sacrifice the Booby Trap in either example, as the named card was not drawn.
Q: I have Leonin Shikari in play as well as Suntail Hawk, and 4 mana open. I also have an (unattached) Sword of Fire and Ice. My opponent has an untapped 2/2 creature. I attack with both my creatures and he declares that he will block the Shikari with his bear. Before damage goes on the stack, I pay 2 mana to equip the Suntail Hawk with the Sword. Damage goes on the stack. But before it resolves, I pay 2 more mana to move the Sword onto the Leonin Shikari (to keep it alive from his creature's damage). When the damage resolves, my opponent takes 3 damage from the Hawk, his creature dies, and my Shikari survives. But, do I get to draw a card and do the extra 2 points of direct damage or not?
A: No you won't draw a card or deal 2 points of damage to a targeted creature or player. The Sword's ability will only trigger when the creature currently equipped by the Sword deals combat damage to a player. It does not matter that the Suntail Hawk in this situation has dealt an increased amount of damage to the defending player due to the Sword, when combat damage resolves it is not equipped so the ability won't trigger.
Q: If I have Dream Halls and Future Sight in play, am I able to discard a blue card (ex. Force Spike) to play a Temporal Cascade from the top of my library? If so can I also pay the 2 for the entwine?
A Yes that works. And yes, you can pay an additional 2 mana for the entwine cost when you play the Temporal Cascade this way.
Q: I had a question about Charmed Pendant. It says "play this ability any time you could play an instant". That means pretty much almost any time, right? It does not mean that you have to use the mana gained for an instant spell only, right?
A: Yes, you can play this ability anytime you have priority. The reason it uses that phrase is that while this ability does add mana to your pool and therefore it is a mana ability, you can not use this ability in the middle of announcing a spell or ability.
