Rules Tip of the Day: When an attacking or blocking creature changes controllers, it is removed from combat. If this happens before the combat damage step, then this 'stolen' creature will not deal any combat damage.
Q: Can Shining Shoal redirect all damage from a source if the source is dealing damage to multiple targets (eg. Sickening Dreams)?
A: Yes. All that matters is that it is damage from a single source.
Q: If I Reweave my opponent's Ghostly Prison and the first enchantment he reveals is Genju of the Fields, can my opponent put it on a Plains they control?
A: Yes. Because Reweave instructs your opponent to put Genju of the Fields into play, he can choose to have it enchant a Plains he controls.
Q: My question has to deal with Ninjutsu and equipment, and is driving my crazy. If your 'unblocked attacker' is equipped with Bonesplitter, and you play the Ninjutsu ability, assuming nothing is countered or bounced, do you end up with a Ninja equipped with said Bonesplitter, or does the equipment become unattached due to the Ninjutsu?
A: The equipment will become unattached. The Ninja may come into play and replace the unblocked attacking creature, but that does not mean that it gets any equipment or local enchantments that were attached to it.
Q: Can Willbender's ability change the target of Last Word to itself?
A: No, spells and abilities cannot target themselves. Last Word is not legal target for itself.
Q: If there is Chalice of the Void with 0 counters on it, will Morph spells be countered if they are played using the Morph ability?
A: Yes. While you pay three to play a face down Morph spell, the converted mana cost of these spells is zero, so Chalice of the Void's ability will trigger.
Q: My opponent plays Cranial Extraction targeting me, and on resolution names Wrath of God. He searches my hand and removes the one from there. He then says "Go" without searching my graveyard or library. What happens? I know the one in the graveyard must be removed. But, is my library considered searched or not??
A: Remind him that the one in the graveyard that must be removed. You do not have to let him know that he missed one in your library as that is not a public zone. By your opponent's actions I would argue that he did search your library and declined to find any copies of the named card.
Q: On my turn, before I draw a card, my opponent uses his Norritt to force one of my creatures to attack. Then I play Whispersilk Cloak and equip that creature with it. Does it still have to attack and if it does not attack, will it be destroyed?
A: Yes, it will still have to attack and if it does not it will be destroyed. Norritt's ability only targets when itt is played. The check for legal targets is made when the ability is played and when it resolves, but not after that. Nothing changes if this ability resolves and then later the targeted creature becomes untargetable.
Q: We have some minor problems with players using illegal substances (marihuana mostly) at our tournaments. Of course it's hard to prove who used it, even though we all know ho does. As the tournament judge, what can I do in order to prevent such abuse? Can I just eject them from the tournament or even report them to Wizards in order to ban them from sanctioned play?
A: The DCI does not have any drug or alcohol policy, other than the rule that all local laws must be enforced. Sanctioned events are not a haven for illegal behavior. If someone in an event is breaking a law, then yes, you can and should DQ them from the event. Anytime you DQ a player it is required that you report this to the DCI.
